Hey Guys. I'm in the market for a new helmet. I have a Shoei RF-800 and it seems to hurt my ears a bit and I'm having a problem with wind noise. Is wind noise a common problem for full-face helmets or are there helmets that are quiter? I do wear ear plugs to lessen the noise, but after an hour or so my ears are ringing. I have an XL pumpkin that is more of an oblong shape. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance, Greg :-/
Greg, I had a Shoei RF-900 and it really pressed against my forehead and gave me a headache. I hated it. I actually "downgraded" to a HJC and love it. In fact I just saw the new HJC's (mirrored multicolored) and were they nice, about $300 retail. Helmets are like shoes, what brand fits one may not fit another person as well, even given the same size. Good luck. 8)
I have always used HJCs. Mainly because they are very comfortable. My current is the FG-12. I love it. Paid $130. Dont bother with the AGV Wolf. Very cool looking, and great price, but it feels like you are wearing concrete. My 0.02 cents...
i have an oblong head, too. the only helmet i know of that works is the signet-gt by arai. the interior design is called a long oval and has been a huge improvement over the shoei x-9 that was crushing my forehead. the signet gt is being discontinued soon and replaced with a signet gt/r. same helmet, just that all the interior liner is removable/washable whereas the cheek pads are removable/replaceable in the regular gt. the only reason that i'm telling you this part is that dealers are hot to get rid of the gt - i got one to match my new bike for 370 today which is better than 400. either way, pricey, but it is so worth it. good luck.
I'm getting ready to buy a new one right now... I currently have the HJC CL12 Streetfighter. I'm fairly satisfied with the fit, the padding is just a tad "hard" for my tastes... squishes my face a bit too much for my liking. I've got it narrowed down to the Arai RX7, or the Shoei X11. Both fit very well, and both feel like a nice down pillow. I'm probably going to go with the X11 Daijiro because it's this years model and I can get it online for under $500
I just bought a new RF-1000 Shoei. Love the comfort. 8) Quieter than my old HJC & super light. I still keep the CL12 for toolin round town tho, the new Shoei is for touring days.
ANybody read the article in the latest Motorcyclist Mag? The second cheapest helmet ($80 Z1R ) was the best at protecting the melon. It probably doesn't fit as good, feel as good, have the best ventilation, etc... as compared to Arai or Shoei, but still... I still like Arai the best but this article got me thinking. I plan on picking up a new helmet this winter... 8)RIDE WELL 8) HWORTH
I've been wearing an original VR1 for a few years now, and have been extremely satisfied with it. Extremely comfortable, and certainly quieter than the AGV it replaced. Great overall value I think. Although if I was going to get a new KBC (and I would certainly look at KBCs again), I'd opt for the "Force S Airborne" simply because you have to love the fact that KBC has the nuts to put a classic "Miss Behavin" pinup on a helmet. http://www.kbc-helmet.com/kbcbbs/zboard.php?id=street&page=1&sn1=&divpage=1&sn=off&ss=on&sc=on&&select_arrange=headnum&desc=asc&no=17&PHPSESSID=41bd58b1759ac1618326a4f4ae40ef31
