I am glad this is working out for you. Just a word of caution for future reference. New post up "I always could have" That is an admission that there was something you could have done to prevent a collision, and therefore, civilly, you bear some responsibility. While I agree you could have done this or could have done that, you stopped and he/she backed up into you. He is in the wrong. He should not be backing into a spot that he does not know is safe. You did nothing wrong at all here.

You should have no problem getting new replacement parts for the 6th Gen. A word of caution on that fender though. The fit for the bolts is tight. Be sure to ream out the bolt holes and clear the inside edges of those holes of all paint before you tighten those bolts. The clearance is not enough with paint on those edges. They will crack and may cause you to get yet another fender. The bolts have collars on them so you can't really over tighten, but with the paint on there, the clearance in that hole due to paint buildup, is enough to cause the cracks.

My admission was in response to GatorGreg, who asked if I thought there might be something in hindsight I could have done differently to avoid the situation. I sure as hell wouldn't tell anyone at the scene that.

Thanks for the tips on the fender. The back order date for it is as far out as November, so I might have to subsist on glue and duct tape for a month or two.

And just to be clear, I wasn't trying to imply that PawnBoy was in any way at fault - it's obvious the other guy screwed up 100%.

Sorry Gents. Didn't mean to suggest PB was wrong in any way here. It is just that so many people want to be friendly and will say things that may come back to bite them. I have had the fortunate opportunity to learn this through previous career opportunities and just want to share things that may prevent grief for others here.

Carry on as if I were normal. May be a tough challenge but I am sure you will succeed.

Hi PB. That actually blows. You were so unlucky. I have been through there 100 times and don't remember ever seeing a car. Must have been rush hour! Good luck getting going again.

Yeah, it's pretty rare that you see anyone there.

I got the mechanical parts installed, took it for a test ride, everything seems to be A-OK. Probably won't use it regularly till the fender is replaced though, since cracks sever the connection of the fender to 4 of its bolts, it's hanging on by a thread.

Alright, I got the fender last night and installed it without scratching it up too much. I'm on the road again.

Couldn't have said it better. You need a permanent record of this incident through a police report. He said he would pay but he likely has no idea of how much it will cost him and it will be a lot which could make him change his mind. Make HIS insurance company pay for it instead of your lying thieving bastards as Randy correctly described them. He did something stupid and I don't sympathize with stupidity.

I want it understood, I did not accuse them thiev'n basters of being liars. I don't have an opinion that way. But someone with a name like James Bond can't be too far off the mark.

Just remember, as soon as it is reported, it will follow u and the bike forever. Does not matter if it is NOT ur fault. Best to work out the moneies, and if that doesn't pan out, get insurance involved. I had this issues years ago.
