Anyone know of a cleaner I can use to remove the chain lube and debris from the rear wheel of my 06? I'm concerned about damaging the coating of the wheel.

I have used both WD-40 and non-chlorinated brake parts/contact cleaner on my 01 VFR with no problem. I either apply them to a rag and use the rag to wipe the gunk off or spray the gunk directly and then wipe it off. Be careful Not to get wd-40 overspray/drippings on the brake Pads,Rotors or tires.

Don't sweat the finish on the wheels...tough stuff.

I have good results with S100 cycle cleaner when I give the bikes their pre-winter bath.

Generic Mineral spirits is very benign and will effectively de-gunk your chain and not hurt any clearcoated surfaces on your bike. On painted surfaces just be sure to use it with a microfiber towel to not cause any micro marring of the paint surface. Rinse with water and reapply wax. You always want to keep your wheels waxed to prevent strong bonding of brake dust and other road debris to your wheels. Believe it or not but papertowel will scratch any paint surface even wet.

Thought you'd like to take a look at some inspiration for your cleaning.

I use kerosene to clean the chain, chain guard, and such before I lube again.

Problem with the degreasers is that they may remove the oil that is protecting your chain if you apply them after you've lubed up. don't ask me how I know this.

Use the heavily Teflon based lube called "Tri-Flow" to clean and pre-lube your chain. Tri-Flow cleans up old chain lube really well and it penetrates exceptional well through the O-rings on the chain and gets to the link pins.

Once your chain is clean and lubed from the Tri-Flow, allow it to fully dry before you use a chain lube of your chose. Just be sure that the chain lube that you use is compatible to the Teflon from the Tri-Flow or the chain lube may not penetrate well into the chain.

I know many that just use Tri-Flow only and nothing else. The only problem is, Tri-Flow by itself will last for about a tank full of gas before needing to be relubed. That is why you will need to follow up the Tri-Flow lube with a Teflon chain lube.

Those who didn't know, a properly lubed chain will help you gain 5-10% better fuel efficiency.

Eagle One Makes a Great All Wheel & Tire Cleaner. I had the wheels on my 07 25th powder coated in white and trust it on them. I have used it on them sence march no problem. You can rub the break dust off with just your hand. It takes care of the tuff stuff also.
