At least your timing wasn't that bad. Looks like six months of cold wet weather is upon us.
    Get well soon.

I kinda thought that but until you are put in a position that one of your comrades is hurt or suffers trauma, you may not understand. Remember, firefighters absolutely rely on their partners for safety so the close bond between them is difficult for others to understand.

A human's safety comes well before personal or public property. Unless the firefighting threatens human life, it takes a second seat to preservation of safety and life. I suppose maybe not everyone there was needed to ensure that and couple have remained fighting the fire, but like I said before. If you haven't been om that situation, you may not understand.

If I may, and a bit of a thread jack...sorry Jay... I recall an incident in my Mountie life where we were being dispatched to an alarm. After that dispatch, same dispatcher came over the air and said "I think a PC (police car) has been involved in an accident" I told her not to dispatch "I think" Know. And where. She did come right back and confirmed it was a PC accident and where.

I was first on scene which was not nice. The rest of the on shift members arrived moments later. No one there could do anything seeing Bill laying in the front seat of a cruiser that had been wrapped around a bridge abutment, with a broken neck. I was able to immediately take charge of the incident and made sure Bill got the necessary attention by the correct people. Probably because he and I were not necessarily good friends, just good partners. They rest of the guys stood around and had this distant and confused look on their faces. I was kind of disappointed in their inability to function in a stressful situation but that's another story. Members form a neighbouring detachment arrived on scene to take over the investigation of the collision as per policy but I had it under control until that time. My point is, there were four or five members at scene more concerned with their partner than the original complaint. And to some degree, that is proper and correct.

In many occupations, if you cannot rely on your partners to cover your safety, then you fail as a unit.
