Does anyone know of a decat pipe for the VFR? I've got an Arrow can but would like to get rid of the restrictive standard cat.
I have the arrow as well but I believe you'd have more to do than just eliminate the catalytic converter. My understanding is that there are a few sensors related and I think the ECU is monitoring exhaust and intake accordingly. Others with more technical/mechanical knowledge will hopefully chime in. Also, you'd be polluting quite a bit more, probably louder as well. I would suggest to only do this if it is to be a track only bike, which would seem strange to start with a VFR. That being said, would be fun to see if someone stripped this bike down to the bare minimum in terms of weight, then worked on the engine a little (perhaps get her up to the 120BHP range). I promise to do so, should I win the lotto!
It depends on where the sensors are located. My old Speed Triple had the cat in the pipework that I removed to fit a low level can, the difference between the two systems was noticeable and even better with a remap. And no sensors disturbed. And if there was a sensor located in the pipes removed the replacement would need an equivalent. I would like to warm the VFR up a bit but not big into tuning, just can't see very much out there right now aside from an end can/air filter change.
Simply removing the cat may make the exhaust more "free flowing" but unless it's done properly the tuned pipe lengths of the stock system is will give better performance ...all the aftermarket slip on cans are effectively the same length as the stock system when fitted One upgrade I've done is fit a Rapid Bike fuel monitoring module, smooths out the fueling around VTEC transition perfectly There was a group buy in the USA of these, CandyRedVFR instigated it and he has the Racing module and about every Sensor that you can fit The Racing module includes optional quick shift, autoblipper and removal of any rev limits, etc Here's a screen image of the changes the unit made on a 1098 Ducati you can see it's all in the lower revs
