5th gen brake pad q

    Use a hard flat surface and place a piece of sand paper on top of it. Using a circular motion, run the brake pad on the sand paper. You can start with a course grit at first and then go to a finer grit once you've removed enough pad material for the rotor to fit through. I would actually take material off both pads equally rather than just grind one pad down. This is typically how you would "de-glaze" a brake pad, at least the way I was taught.

    In light of Allyance's findings, I would have to go with his suggestion of getting the correct size pads. In a pinch, I guess one could go with the sanding method but not knowing how much additional padding is on the /2 pads, it would be best to get the correct ones.

    dangit, when your'e right, your'e right.
    i'm going to order the correct pads and just keep her grounded for now :(
    i have been filing for about 10 minutes and so far have almost nothing to show... damn damn damn

    there is nothing left on the old pads, or i would have kept using them for now. :(

    They EBC's hardest sintered compound!
    One thing you will notice is that they will make a funny whiring sound when you apply the brakes, that is normal, it is the sound of holes!

    Ebc. HH sintered. Best pad by far for the vfr. I have a 2004 vfr 800. All pads the same front and rear. Honda pads all have different numbers. But pads are same size. Gets confusing.

    I got the correct pads yesterday and installed them with no trouble. I could not get anywhere with the brake flushing. Since i had zero braking power at all, and it wasnt getting any better, i took it to a reliable small shop owner near me. He'll do a good job on it and charge me a very fair price.

    Another vote for EBC HH. They are awesome on my 5th gen. One really nice change to consider is switching the front hoses to braided stainless. That made a big difference in feel. After upgrading just the two front lines to the calipers, I am able to comfortably do single finger stops in traffic.
