First of all, HELLO from middle TN!!!

So, I have been thinking about getting a second motorcycle. I currently have a 2015 Indian Scout, but have been thinking alot about my old 05 CBR F4i... naturally, the VFR is a very attractive bike. So, I started doing research.

Seems like the general consensus is that they are one of the best bikes out there for all around uses, and are considered to be built like tanks, and meant to last a very long time if cared for properly.

I have found one about an hour away, that I am very interested in, but I was wondering if you guys would take a look and tell me what you think regarding price, what kinds of questions I should ask, what things to consider before jumping in and buying it, etc. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

In my preliminary research, I keep hearing about bad rectifiers/regulators and stators. The owner states that he has not replaced/upgraded these parts and that it has no charging issues...although I know that doesn't mean I wont see problems down the road..

Anyway, heres the bike! Let me know what you think. THANKS!

    Wow looks great.
So how long has it been sitting?
    May need fluids flushed
    Battery in good shape?
Givi rack, what about top box?
If you can swindle him down a tad on price, there's no harm tryin right.

Looks good! And you got a lot of extras like the helibars, and exhaust which is nice, although delkevic is way better ;)

$5,000 seems a bit high. You shouldn't have an issue scoring it for $4,000-$4,500.. The 06+'s had fewer issues with the electrical system, and at 5,000 miles it doesn't surprise me that he hasn't had any problems.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy it, assuming everything checks out. Looks clean.

Looks nice. I'd see what others are listed at on Cycletrader and craigslist for ammo to negotiate price.

So he says it's been sitting for about 3 months. He starts it every 2 weeks. It's been on a battery tender.

He had it serviced in February, so I wouldn't think I'd need to flush fluids.

Has the givi rack, but no top box.

I've been looking for comparable bikes locally, and the only ones going for ~4500 are with about 18k miles and no luggage or upgrades.

What would be a reasonable offer? Nada puts the value around 4850 I think.

I'd still shoot for as close to 4k as you can get.

Helibars and Sargent seat are a good bonus.

Obviously the lower the price the better. Honestly, that seems like a fair price for what ur getting. I would show up for a test ride and bring $4500 and show him the greenbacks and see if he bites. I would feel comfortsble spending 4500 on that myself.
    Good luck.

So did you end up pulling the trigger on the VFR? I've been trying to sell my 2007 VFR with no luck this summer. How do you like the Scout? I've been wanting one since they've come out!

Hey there SirFlow, I got mine last summer, same color, year & similar mileage. You're getting an awesome deal. I paid 5k for mine and I didn't get all the extras you're getting. Go for it man, you won't regret it at all!

I love my 2007 VFR and it runs great! I have 38K miles on it. Last year I ended up buying a 2007 ST1300, and I really like that for the distance traveling that I was doing on the VFR. The big drawback for me on the VFR for distance traveling was worrying about and dealing with the chain during my trips. The ST has a shaft drive and it's just easy to keep on going. That's really the only gripe I have about the VFR. Now that I have both, they are a little too similar to justify having two sport touring motorcycles. If I'm going to have two motorcycles, I want them to be completely different and I've been keeping an eye on the Scout. But who knows....I didn't have any luck selling it this year. I may just keep it and keep on growing my collection!
