Hi, I am a recent owner of a 2001 VFR 800 with about 38,000 miles behind it and I love it in every way except it has a miss on one cylinder below 3000 RPM most of the time. Rarely the 4th cylinder will fire below that but the problem always clears up right at and above 3000 RPM to silky smooth performance. Currently, I am following the advice of a couple of friends and have used up a 20 oz container of Techron additive in the fuel and have continued burning about a tank with SeaFoam mix before going deeper into the problem. My VFR spent a lot of time in the previous owners garage (he has four other bikes) and it had a major tune about 600 miles ago (including 200 by me). I have redlined it a couple of times through the gears but am mostly taking it easy. Also, it is hard to tell for sure but the idle seems normal for a few seconds after a cold start, then it begins to miss. My expectations of the fuel additives has never been high and I am wondering if anyone who has experience with them can advise me how long I should continue this track before giving up and checking injectors, plugs, compression, etc.. I surely would appreciate a shove in the right direction for a fix.

    Jim W.

    Swap plugs / leads.
    Does the problem follow changes?
    then ck compression
Wouldn't spend any more time on additives.

if those are all fine then look at injectors.
Generally, If I'm going to pull 1 injector then I pull the lot.
    Get them cleaned professionally.
