Hey all, I'm looking to replace the water pump cover's gasket/o-ring on my 85 VF500F. There is one bolt in the lower left corner of the water pump cover that sits directly behind the sidestand's frame mount. I cannot get a socket on that bolt because it's too close to the frame and an open box wrench is only going to slip off.

Haven't acquired a manual yet, do I need to remove the three engine mount bolts and raise up the motor a bit so I can get a socket on the water pump cover's lower left bolt or is there another trick to it?

    Thanks

Never received a reply from anybody on the VFR forum so I researched elsewhere.

I came across this diagram and received a blinding flash of the obvious. Here is what you need to do to gain access to the water pump without pulling the engine.

To remove the water pump... setup a jackstand or blocks to support the engine then remove nuts from the two long lower engine mount bolts and pull the bolts back slightly, remove the two Allen head bolts (#13 and #14) at both ends of the lower left portion of the frame (part #3). Allen head bolts #13 have nuts (#17) on the back side of the frame that will need to be removed. With the lower left portion of the frame removed you now have full access to remove the water pump.

    Cheers
