I don't know why it was swapped...it's possible it was wrecked or damage somehow and that was an easy option for them so they swapped. I would worry to much about t. Go through the bike as normal. Check fluids, check all wiring and connectors, probably better of changing all fluids lol. Ride it and have fun!! Let Us know what ya need bud!

Eternal used vehicle buying truth. Amazing how poorly so many of us maintain our bikes/cars.

Ha ha thanks, I left some out assuming he knew but let me add what I'd do/check.

#1 ORDER THE MANUAL, Haynes or Honda or whatever it's worth the $35 I repeat ORDER THE GOD DANG MANUAL PLEASE!!!

#1A change oil (don't care if he says it was just done, its peace of mind for me knowing what I'm working with)

#2 Flush Radiator and add new fluid (simple, and adds that peace of mind. (It probably needs it anyway)

#3 Check the condition of your brake fluid, if it's anything more that med brown I'd change it. I don't know the process on the older bikes but use the manual.

#4 Check brake pads and calipers for wear and leaks.

#5 Check front fork seals for leaks and wear (you need a rebuild no doubt but that can wait)

#6 Check the condition of the rear shock (again a swap rebuild/refurb) likely in order but it can wait)

#7 You really need to check the valve clearance and the manual will help you along with numerous posts on here.

#8 I'd give the charging system a good check to make sure stator is good and the Regulator/Rectifier (nicknamed R&R) is working properly.

#9 Do the old ones have voltmeters already?? If they don't add one. I don't know if the older bikes are prone to charging system failures like the new ones but ALL bikes fail over time. It's a simple way to keep an eye on the health of your charging system and your battery so you don't get stranded.

#10 Drain the gas out of the bike if it doesn't run...otherwise ride the gas mostly out of it and get a strong flashlight and open the cap and give it a good look for rust and junk. If it's rusty don't worry they have numerous kits that you clean it with then dump a coating in and shake it around and it will seal it. If it's just nasty and funky dis mount the tank and find an appropriate solvent and give it a clean. If either one of these is the case clean the fuel pump inlet and filter. With the age of this bike if I made it that far I'd just replace the pump.

#11 Check tires well! Looks for dry-rotting and cracks on the sidewalls and in between the tread of the tires. Also verify air pressure and correct if wrong. Some run 38 front/42 rear. I run 38 both. I'd just follow the tire specs.

#12 Sounds silly but verify all lights and blinkers work properly and horn as well.

This is a very long list but it truly only covers the basics and the items that could hurt you bike or you. There's more things to be done annually, bi-annually and so on.

I hope it helps and if you're not able to do something or are unsure then don't. Take it to a shop or better yet reach out here. Someone has to be close by you and trust me they are willing to help. I'm in the Houston Texas area if your around I'm willing to do whatever you need.

Also go on over and join the VFRdiscussion forum as well. Another good source of info and increase the chances you'll meet someone in your area to either help or just hang out with and ride.

    Good luck bud!

if the firks were replaced, probably a front end impact, so check front wheel and head bearings for damage.
