Congrats on buying one of the all-time greatest bikes. Really! Take good care of it; though durable, they like TLC like any machine.

Congrats on the new bike! I love my 5th gen but with 24k on the clock you might as well order a new R/R. 25K is right about when they crap out. Just like clockwork mine went out at 24,800.

What does R/R stand for? If its the rectifier issue, the previous owner had it switched out.

What TLC do yall do to yours?

R/R stands for Regulator/Rectifier. If the replacement is oem it will fail again. People around (me included) switch to modern MOSFET (fh020aa, fh012aa, fh012ab, sh775, etc) and it lasts much more (that much that anyone around broke one of them by now) because they heat a lot less.
But the stator (kind of alternator) also fails over time and the best replacement for it is the oem one. Chineses ones fail much more often, and there is no "better" replacement like with the R/R.

If the previous owner hasn't installed a voltmeter yet do so....that will eliminate all the guess work with the charging system...

^^^^^^^Yes... What they said. I have a volt meter on mine and noticed that the battery seemed to be having trouble cranking the engine. And the volt meter confirmed that the system was not charging.

No...you'll have to install an aftermarket voltmeter. I put the link below to what I used. Just run the wire right to the battery positive so you know exactly what you getting and can also keep and eye on your battery health. I put a toggle switch inline on mine...I don't want it running when the bikes off. I also put a fuse block under the seat...you don't need the mess of 8 wires crammed on to the battery. I also have a cigarette lighter hooked up on mine as well. I mounted the switches on the inside of the dash faring if your looking down through the fairings at the ground and the meter and lighter face up on the flat side.

What do u think of my friends 1998 vfr? Im selling his for him. It was red but now custom paint dark green grey metallic with custom instrument rc46 cluster from a guy on here who does them, and vintage vfr decals, clear tailight with integrated signals, and led headlight, led turnsignals and turn signal mirrors. Also has a digital gear readout for what u r in? Hes asking 3100 and it has 13k on it. Here are the photos. Just getting opinions of people about it. 0713171333a.jpg 0713171332.jpg 0713171333.jpg 0713171334a.jpg 0713171334b.jpg
