    >:( Just figured I would post something new in this area !!! LOL

Im sellin a older 600 sportbike.....its built to full superbike spec of its day, has literally thousands of bucks of aftermarket goodies and comes with a semi complete parts bike.....I listed it at $1900......I am willing to drop a few hundred if needed.
My point is.....Im gettin these jerks tellin me they will give a grand at most !!!! They have not seen or rode the bike. They dont even know the extent of the upgrades or the condition of the bike !! They are lookin at $7000 bikes......then they see a crap example of my bike go on evilbay for $900.....so they right away assume mine cant be worth much more !!!!

Man, sorry im just venting......but after 25 plus years of buying and selling bikes (Maybe around 60 to 70 machines) I have had it with todays uninformed misguided buyers !! Sure will be glad when I sell this one last machine !! Then down to only the VFR and 2 others !!! ::)

I have been that jerk before, and I have been on the sellers end too. The theory being that for the 99 times the seller tells you to bug off, there's always one that says "ok, I'll sell for a grand" and then you have gotten a great deal. Don't get bent out of shape, it's all part of the game. Try listing your bike for $5k and then when they offer $2500 you can grudgingly accept....

I too have bought and sold dozens of m.c.'s in the past 40 yrs. Here's what I learned: If someone offers you any money for a used vehicle w/o actually seeing it, he/she isn't really serious. the're just trying to get your asking price lowered for free. Tell them to come out and see the bike, bring cash, and then you will consider their offer. When setting your asking price always go a little higher so that the buyer can offer you less, you can accept, and everyone's happy. There is a psychological need for the buyer to feel that he/she got it for less. All used bike pricing guides (KBB, NADA, MCN, etc) are just that - guides. Location, time of year, aftermarket add - ons or take-offs all affect the worth of the bike as does the needs (financial and emotional) of both buyer and seller. The best feeling is when both buyer and seller are happy with the deal and the parting is friendly. Good luck !

I find it the opposite here.

people are asking ALOT for their bikes.

Just the other day I saw a 91 VFR750 with over 105,000kms on it without original paint for well over $4,000

lmao I know this one all too well. Actually had a guy come to my house the other day wanting to buy my Suzuki. Wasn't even trying to sell it, but figured heck, if he offers enough, sure! So we went to the garage and he checked out both bikes, heard the Suzuki run, saw everything work, and was quite impressed. Then after some chit chat, he looked at me straight-faced and said "I'd give ya $250 for it today...nothing more" followed up with an "I'm not trying to insult you, that's just all I have and can afford". I calmly showed him where the door was with a nice little "And you can get the hell outta my house with that insult, too!"

I think it's important to remember that any aftermarket add-on is only an asset to the bike if you find the particular buyer that wanted the same thing. Otherwise, it's just extra junk. I have a lot of money in my 5g VFR but I know that I'd be lucky to get what I paid for it, and I got it used for a very fair price. Even harley's are feeling the crunch now and they traditionally held their value. When I post an ad and I have decided how much I want, I either add to the price or very plainly state "I will not take less, I don't need to sell. Don't waste my time." Sometimes I even put things like "I don't care what your brother's friend's cousin got one for a week ago." or something to that effect. Sometimes when they do come by and they do make a ridiculous offer, I offer them part of the item I am selling. For instance, I had a bicycle up for $500 and the guy offerred me $400. I said maybe but without the pedals and the seat but I was gonna have to think about it. He called me back a couple days later saying he'd take it for $400 without the seat and the pedals and I told him I changed my mind. A week or two later he offerred me full price and I told him "no. I took it riding to think about the sale and loved it too much, I can't let it go now." Maybe I taught him a lesson for the next guy he tried to buy from.

oh, and you guys do realize that this thread is a couple years old right?
