One of our users is having trouble uploading a custom avatar. When he goes to My Settings -> Edit Avatar -> then Save Changes, he receives the message:

Remote file uploads have been disabled.

I have tested and it seems to be working for me, and I see that a couple other users have created custom avatars. Is anyone else having this problem? Please give it a try and let me know.

    Thanks,
    Michael

I tried linking to an avatar on my server. No go. I got the same message about the remote uploads being disabled.

Can you try to upload it from your PC by hitting Browse and tell me if that works?

Okay, so a direct upload worked. I was just trying to save you the bandwidth by hosting if off my server instead of uploading it to yours.

Okay I got to the bottom of it.

    1. vBulletin does not allow linking to external avatars because it's a security risk. The avatar HAS to be local.
    2. Doing an upload from your PC should work fine.
    3. Uploading from a remote URL does not currently work because of a PHP setting on the server. Again, a security risk. I will see if that can be changed, but it may not be possible.

The workaround, of course, is to just save the avatar onto your PC and then use the Browse function to upload it to VFRworld. Easy enough to get around this issue, but I'll still look into other solutions.

If you are fine with folks uploading to your server and using your bandwidth, I don't really see it as a big issue for you and would not worry about it.

Oh, and the PM works for me now :thumb:
