    Hi guys,

'02 VTEC, European model. Turn signal switch is faulty - at some point wouldn't stay on any more, just cancelled as soon as I released it. Happens on the right side more than on the left. Obviously a mechanical issue because the severity increases if you overtighten the two bolts on the switchgear block.

Went to a shop, they said a plastic bit wore out from overuse. (The bike was originally sold in Italy - since when do Italians use turn signals?!) I got a used block from eBay, it was off a US-spec '06 Interceptor, no Pass switch and a different wiring connector.

Plan A is to have a Mr Fix-It mechanic put the entire turn signal mechanism from the US block into my original one and see if that fixes it. Plan B is a two hundred euro replacement OEM block from Honda.

Plan C was to figure out the part that's actually worn out, go to the local makerlab and see if they can 3D-print a replacement, if it really is just a piece of plastic.

Has this happened to anyone before?

Not my 06. It is ridden in all weather, and used to be more in the rain than sun. hen again, the wet probably lubricated the switch to some degree if it even got into that area. I have 205,000 km on mine so I think you may have one that may be less Honda like in quality. Shit happens. Or I have been extremely lucky. I didn't realize those parts were so expensive. I think I need a new hazard light switch. My hazards have not worked for years.

I've noticed that my choice of gloves can affect my indicators. I think my thumb, with certain gloves on, presses down a little on the indicator switch, cancelling it as I release it.

Nah, definitely not gloves, it's the same even with bare fingers.

Randy, what does the hazard switch look like, exactly? My '02 doesn't have one, but I'd love to have it as a way to thank people for moving over during overtakes...

The switch is on the throttle side, right below the kill switch. It is on the 06 Canadian version anyways. I don't know where you are from as we no longer have a location posted in our avatars since the rebuild of the site. Hazard Switch.jpg

Crap. I want one of those!

On mine (I'm in Estonia, this bike was originally sold in Italy) that's where the headlight switch is. Only off-runninglights-lowbeams though, no hazards.

That's the difference right there. Canadian models have no way to turn the headlight off. They must be on at all times. High beam is on LHS. You get lights on/off, we get 4-Ways.

So, update: had an acquaintance who's good with electrics and other fiddly things look at the switches, he took some of the guts from the US-spec switch and put it in the original switch. Works fine now. The actual switch mechanism (white plastic bit with contacts on it) is indeed interchangeable between generations and market specs... if someone ever comes across this thread with the same problem.

    Hhhuh.

We have the law for lowbeams on whenever the vehicle is moving, so the bike is wired (from factory) so that I can keep the RHS switch in the lowbeam position and they come on with the key in the Run position. But yeah we have the Off and intermediate Running Lights positions too.
