Oil Pressure light - Help...

One day into an Arizona-Utah dream 2200 mile trip, and my '06 dies with oil pressure light coming on. Engine spins but won't light. After about 7 ignition off/ons the light did go out and let me restart to get it to safety. Now symptoms repeat, with oil light coming on and preventing restart.
Did oil/filter change a week ago, putting 100 mi on it before this trip. Today was 300 mi., then it quit.
I think I'm pretty stranded going into Memorial Day weekend. So I need really quick ideas here...

Any abnormal Noise at all from the engine?

Making the assumption that the oil level is good, and that the filter you used was the correct type.

This may be a pressure sensor failure. No common, but possible. The Gen6 VFR is one I am not familiar with.

Update from proper...
Oil level is right at the top line where it should be. Oil filter and oil was from Honda dealer.
Engine spins, but with oil light on, is not allowing a start.

Bummer is it this totally f***s my trip.
Tomorrow is a AAA tow to a Uhaul 45 minutes away, then a 15' truck back to Tucson. :-(

 

The oil light is a pressure switch. Unless the engine is spinning reasonably quickly, there won't be much oil pressure so the light will be on. So... did the engine die, and the oil light came on, or was the oil pressure the reason for the stop? If you've got oil in there, it would be unusual to have low pressure.

The oil pressure switch won't stop the engine from starting in any case, it is just an indicator.

Are you getting normal sounds when you flick the key on, i.e. fuel pump priming? This all sounds more electrical to me. How are the fuses, or the kill switch?

 

Terry - you are the man. I turned on the ignition, and no fuel pump sound! This led me under the seat to check fuses (these were OK), and I found a loose / corroded wire that I'm getting spliced now. My trip is back on. Big THANKS.

Here's the bastard wire... It's a short black one from a Pos+ fuse holder to a connector.
