I popped out to view a 2006 FZ6 tonight. Nice looking bike in the photos, low miles, good price so I went to see it after work.

After a load of salesman patter, where I was told straight that the Fazer had 98hp, I went for a quick ride around the block. I very quickly realised that it definitely does not have 98hp. It was incredibly sluggish and although the riding position was comfortable, I could find little more to be positive about - so I thanked the bloke and walked away.

It made me realise just how much I love my viffer and for it's age, how good it is still. I've had mine for 18 years and have recently been tempted to replace it with a ZX-10, R1 or a 'Blade. Thing is, my old engine still pulls really strong, no real mods other than a noisy baffleless exhaust, but I can still get to 160mph with ease.

I sometimes pop down to Austria for a ride around the twisties with a small group and although they all have newer, faster bikes than mine, I can still keep up - and it's not because I'm a skilled rider, I am not. I feel like I'm falling in love with my bike all over again!

So what's your favourite thing about your bike? Why do you stick with the old tourer when there are faster, more advanced bikes around these days? What does it do better than other bikes you've had?

Would be nice to read your comments about this astonishingly robust and highly capable bike.

What I like most about my VFR is it does everything well. I can't think of any other single bike I'd want to replace it with (assuming I can only have one). The VFR is like a decathlete - the Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner of motorcycles if you will :beguiled: I rode a BMW S1000RR recently and thought I was in love with it but then after going for a spirited ride on my VFR I realized just how freaking great a bike it is. Yeah it's not as fast as the BMW but it's fast enough for me (I hit 130 mph on my recent trip to St. Augustine) and much more comfortable to ride.

One can only compare the VFR against the other bikes that you ride. For me, I really like the agility with stability across all road surfaces, the endless smooth rev range, fast and positive gear change and a very manageable riding position. But then I'm comparing it to my VTR1000 or ST1100, both of which excel in other areas, the VTR being a torquey v-twin but a little unsophisticated and quite uncomfortable compared to the VFR, and the ST being comfortable and relaxed, unflappable over any surface, but not exactly nimble or quick.

To be honest all of them have more than enough power, with suspension and brake mods that have made them "mine".

I like a lot of things, only one part that's a kinda a bug a boo is the VFRs weight, all the rest is great. Great motor with a lot of soul, decent riding posture, stops good, especially now, runs pretty decent still think there's more to be had, but we will see. Does everything I could ask for what it is.. have an idea though the Tuono may be better, IDK, I do know for the money the VFR, specifically this one, will be hard to beat.

"her" winning Woman Of The Year is like our 8th gen VFR, any standard VFR for that matter, winning best Dual Sport bike or Café Racer of the year...

With regards to the original question: After being without a bike for over a decade, right now I'm just happy to have one again! :D

I've owned more motorcycles than i can remember ,had fun with most all of them, but ever since buying my VFR new 19 years ago it's the ONE street bike that whenever i finish a ride ,I'll take a few steps from the bike ,turn around to look at it & say to myself "man i just love the VFR". Like RVFR stated, the ONLY down fall is its weight.:thumb::thumb:

Agreed on all that. Have had my VFR for 18 years and counting.
If you test a Tuono you will likely be hard pressed to NOT open your wallet. :love-struck:
The older V twins that I have are noticeably lighter, and have more torque and HP.
They are even comfortable with the sit up and beg position.
The downside is gas mileage and range, they are thirsty. But you don't buy Thunder for the gas mileage. :biggrin-new:

Smoothness of the engine is what I like best about my bike. Take that with a smooth gearbox and great V4 roar and you have a beautiful experience going up and down the powerband.

Sorry Samuel :glee: Turns out Caitlyn was not such a great choice for a decathlete to compare to the VFR since she apparently prefers to ride on rods now, er, VRods :witless:

So instead I'll just say that the VFR is the Bo Jackson of motorcycles since it does many things well.

Like many of you I have owned many motorcycle and have had the opportunity to sample many more because of my association with the bike business. The VFR800 has ruined me for other bikes. I still search Craigslist for bikes but there is always that little voice in my head that says "that's nice but ti's not as good as your VFR." The VFR is my perfect motorcycle. It does everything well. With the seat and handlebar upgrades it's an all day touring machine but it's a boat load of fun in the twisties too. I love the sound my 5th gen makes. I listen to the gear whine and I know it's my bike. I spent may years on a BMW R90/6 with all the upgrades and the VFR is hands down superior. As for the weight, I was about ready to pull the switch for an ST1300 and I rode the VFR. That changed my mind completely. I too have a VTR1000 and it is s hoot to ride but it hurts my body after 100 miles or so.

I'll tell ya after the trip to R3 and the rides, I am more impressed with my bike more then EVER. Handling was incredible and in the tight twisties and sweepers it was solid (thank God for Jamie) When called on to pass them big rigs just had ta downshift and twist that go fast grip.
    Man had a ball
The only complaint which was on me was my right hand got pretty tiered in the tight stuff, probably could of lessened my grip a tad.
I sure do love my bike.

That's me all over. It's like I have a death grip on the thing. I catch myself doing it and then I do it all over again!

I love how I hit the start button and it goes straight into purr. No choke to adjust 5 or 6 times at the first couple of lights. It might be a small thing and I know that other bikes have fuel injection but after riding GS850's for many years I really like it.
I Love how I can ride it all day (longest was only 800 Km) and then decide to ride for another couple of hundred to see a friend only to get shot down by the other guys in the group that were done for the day on their not to be named Yamahas and Suzuki's.
I Love how after I clean it people constantly assume its a newish bike and are shocked to find out it's an '02 with 90,000Km.
I Love how my wife tells all her friends that she won't ride on the back because she doesn't like sport bikes.
I love how people assume I ride a Hog because of how I look and try to hide their surprise when I set them straight.
    I could go on....
