    Hi Gang

I'm feeling particularly pleased with myself that I've learnt a new word - wellnuts. I had no idea what to call the rubber fairing grommets fasteners until last week.

Reason I know it now is because I need one. I know, it's a pathetically small part but surely other 5th gen owners whose bikes are 16-18 years old (old enough to go to the pub by themselves) have had their wellnuts perish/split/crack?

I bought a packet of M5 wellnuts last week, thinking they must fit my bike because the seller has written so on eBay - but they don't :sour:

Have a look at the picture. The ones I need are squashed to fit snuggly in to the hole of the frame or fairing but I can't find them for sale anywhere. Searched for "Honda Fairing Wellnuts" on Google and found not one image similar to the thing I am looking for.

Can anyone enlighten me? Are the ones on my bike just squished versions of the ones inside the red square?

    Thanks :eagerness:

Could be just a matter of what they are called here and there. Another one that can be confusing is the differences between well nuts and push rivets.

They are it. They get squised because of usage. The one on the red square are new, the one on the image are installed ones after some time tightened. They are just as that when new.

Well nuts are what they are called.

Got a load a few years back from eBay from someone selling lotus spares. Cost less than half of what everyone else was asking for them.

As above. They are well nuts and look far different new than after use. They are available at your local Honda Stealership for a stupid high price even if the parts person says they a=only come already attached to the faring piece. My parts guy tried that with me but I was able to convince him to spend a minute to find the well nuts alone. But they are also available at your local hardware store. I don't know if you have Home Depot on your side of the swamp but they are readily available in the USA and Canada there.

You may need to insert the well nut in place without the mating piece and screw in the bolt to force the well nut to conform to the hole in the faring first. AFter that, they should stay conformed to the piece fine.

    Well, nuts!

I guess I'm SOL on my 91. Thankee Jesus for pushrivets, Gorilla tape, hot glue, 5 minute epoxy, chewing gum and baling wire.
