So i got my 85 vf500f running on 4 cylinders and it has smooth power and sounds great but it wont idle less than 3k on start up and goes to 5k after it warms up. The idle screw can only increase this idle issue. What am i doing wrong? Is the carb synced to high? Ill check to see if i can find a vacuum leak today inn the boots because i read about this being a possibility. Carbs are cleaned. Sprayed with break cleaner and blown out with air hose. New boots to hold the carbs in and tightened doen fully. Ehat am i missing?

Sounds like an air leak. You will find out easily enough by squirting something combustible at the carb boots. Hopefully it is as simple as re-fitting.

I'm looking over the cables tonight when I get home. also spraying a little starting fluid on the boots to see if their is a vacuum leak. the boots that are on there are straight I saw online the stock boots have an angle to them. is there any way to get a set of boots that have that angle in them to make it easier to seal them better? the ones he put on there are straight and might be affecting the seal. again I'll check it tonight when I leave work

They are straight, but there is a top and a forward due to small reliefs in the molding on the carb side. At least there was. They might have been changed over the years. The VF700/750 are straight with no markings or reliefs.

Correct, Captain, AFAIK the 500 has the marking "CARB" on one end.
