OK, thanks Randy. I had seen the term in some posts but was unsure of the meaning.

From Wikipedia: The origin of the term squid is ambiguous. It is commonly said to be a contraction of squirrely and kid, or less commonly, squished and kid. It might also have something to do with the appearance of a lightly-clothed person who has fallen off their bike and slid chaotically down the road; the resultant injuries may make the unfortunate motorcyclist resemble an amorphous tentacled creature.
Squid is also described occasionally as an acronym, although these are likely backronyms.

"Stupidly Quick, Underdressed, Ignorant and Dangerous"
"Stupidly Quick, Underdressed and Imminently Dead"
    "Super Quick Until I Die"
    "Speeding Quickly Until I Die"

Another possibility is that the term originally referred to newly-inducted sailors based in San Diego in the 1960s, who sometimes used inexpensive two-stroke motorcycles for transportation. The term could have originally referred to these unprotected, inexperienced "marine life" moving through traffic rapidly and leaving a trail of black "ink" (the characteristic dark colored two-stroke exhaust) behind. Squid was also a more general derogatory term for sailors of this time.
Motorcyclists will often note similarities between how a squid rides and the manner in which a squid swims. Squids may appear unable to change direction while swimming without first coming to a near stop, but then accelerate very rapidly. Beginning motorcyclists may often experience difficulty negotiating turns at normal rates of speed, but have a tendency to ride very fast on straight sections of road.

While I've never been called one in person, I occasionally get called a squid on internet forums and in YouTube comments - so I'm probably a good person to try to help answer your question :glee: When I get called a "squid" on this forum it's usually due to one of the following three reasons:

    a) my love of obnoxiously loud exhausts
    b) my failure to comply with speed limits
    c) my failure to comply with the ATGATT principle

However, the term "squid" is difficult to define because it means different things to different people, kind of like the words "religion" and "troll". Ironically, on this forum I get called "squid" most frequently by the two biggest trolls on the forum :glee:

I think this video will also help answer your question:

I love how they keep referencing R1 riders - I'm guessing there's some coordination taking place in Gixxerland on that? :witless: I almost spewed my Gatorade when I read this one below :glee:

    Squid
    v. 'to squid'. A sexual technique whereby immediately prior to the male's ejaculation the female's parent, boyfriend or other threat enters the room. The male then turns to face the intruder, ejaculating onto them, thereby creating a distraction and allowing an expedient getaway. From the method by which squid spray ink at predators to ease escape.

I can't remember if you called me a squid Bubba - but I highly doubt it - you're much too polite! And course you're not a troll - you actually own a VFR and post helpful info! The "two biggest trolls on the forum" was a reference to BB (the self-proclaimed "Official VFRWorld Troll Of The Year!" :glee: ), and of course NoVFRBoy :witless: In fact I doubt if BB owns a VFR either - I don't recall seeing any recent posts that would suggest he does and when I clicked his gallery link it shows a pic of a VFR that he posted 10 years ago - please tell me he still has it :glee:

    Here's a good definition of "troll" http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=troll

    troll
One who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument

I've got an idea for a new movie called "Troll v. Squid" - it takes up where "Alien v. Predator" left off :glee:

60-70 mph though (your own) residential neighborhoods and objectifying badly dressed women in avatars is, well, full-on squid behavior.

Those guns are misfiring too often these days.

The troll here was you posting the video, and then many posts defending it. Text book.

Bubba wouldn't know aboot my VFR. Sucking him into your defense mechanisms is a cheap shot. I bought the bike brand new. Still have it. The bike looks much the same as it did in the pic. The location was about half way up "Marys Peak" in Oregon.

As long as we are taking a look at your fuck ups, my troll status was hard won and conferred by one of the mods.

Damn dude, if you are gonna catch fish ya gotta use some bait. They must teach that at the "Little Ajax" law school.

Great idea on making that film. A vid would get a few hits. Sitting through it would be a different story. It could be the sleeper viral of the moment.

This Haybusa riders fiery crash must rate as an example of a SQUID and to borrow a quote from Stoner " Obviously his ambition outweighed his talent " , luckily even though missing one sneaker and his 'Busa in flames he appears beaten up but hopefully not too serious.

Your rare form knowledge, humor, and articulation of it never ceases to amaze me. This begs the question whether you've ever been in the position of "spreading your ink" onto an intruder or is it just information a well informed male should know? Either way, it's just part of being an informed, educated person. Commendations your way as usual....; )
