Hey Everyone. Help please. So I'm still new to this. Only my second yr but loving every second.
I have a 84 VFR750 with a small oil drip out of the water pump weep hole. I have pulled the water pump out and the O ring looks ok but not great. I am going to replace it. I know its a hard question to answer but what are the chances this will fix the problem? Should I be going a different route? Should I just cave and buy a new pump?

    Thanks

I'd like to be of some help, but I have not yet had to do any repair in the water pump area.

The weep hole is designed to let you know when the pump seals have failed.

I'm ignorant as to why you would have oil coming from it.

One thought, ... could it be a gasket leak where the pump is attached?

From some limited research It might be the O ring but it could also be the oil seal. 1 is easy to replace the other not so much

Just went out and looked at mine, and I couldn't see "telltale" (weephole). Must be on back side, below the shaft, outside of coolant chamber. If that is the location, then O-Ring is your problem. With a bike of this age, I would replace both o-rings.

Changed both O rings and the problem continues although not as severe. Did a complete oil change just hoping the small drip is from a bit of spilled oil but suspect I may be after a new water pump. Hoping not as they seem very hard to find.

I will check to see if have a spare it would have low milage, but would need new o-rings because of their age.

May seem like a dumb question but can anyone answer the following question for me?

Will a water pump from a 84 Megna 750 fit my bike?

Don't know about Magna Pump, but here is a photo of mine, removed in 1985, low milage, should be fine.

The mechanical seal is behind the impeller. Can you buy replacement parts for this? I could go on one of the many parts sites and find out (feeling lazy right now) I Replaced the mechanical seal/carbon washer and oil seal on my Kawasaki EX500. The water pump came apart in two halves that had carbon gaskets. My cost on the parts was 30 dollars - I have a new in the box water pump I bought from Honda for future use - its for the 3rd generation bikes.

Its possible to have an oil leak where the weap hole is btw. The problem is behind that impeller. 20170329_135904.jpg 20170329_135911.jpg
