1986 VF500F Frankencycle seeking rear sprocket advice

I am wondering about swapping the 43T (1986) for a 44T, to better match the 1984 engine specs. Any thoughts?

 

1 on the rear is not drastic. You'll get a little better acceleration but higher rpms at freeway speeds.

 

And it will bring your rear tyre nearer to the swingarm. Not a problem if you are running stock wheels and tyres but can be an issue if you swap to 17 inchers. I had to mess with the chain to make sure I had room to manouvre when I swapped wheels.

 

Yes I am running stock wheels and tires, and not looking for anything drastic. As soon as the supplier gets some in stock, I'm going for it.

 

Avoid any alloy reAR SPROCKET as it will wear out twice as fast as an OEM steel sprocket.

Aluminium alloy rear sprockets are fine in my experience. Renthal make good ones. I nearly always swap and had never had a problem with them. Good lubrication is more important though I will admit. I fit Scottoilers to bikes I will tour on.

 

I went ahead and did the swap, JT Sprockets 44T steel. As pointed out above, definitely not a drastic or even very noticeable change, but I am liking it so far.
