Is this the CCT noise I read about here ...

Well, my 07 has developed a sound that is troubling. I attempted to capture it in this video:

You should be able to hear the engine idle note change significantly. You can hear it at the start of the video, then it goes away and comes back. I rev the engine slightly but that doesn't seem to affect much.
My girl has ~36K miles, so I guess it's about time the CCTs go ...

Yep.

The good news is that its fairly easy to do - You only need to lift the fuel tank remove the airbox & work from there. There is a few posts on here about ihow to do it.

Oh man, l would rather not have to remove my air box ever again.

 

Cam Chain Tensioner - basically a device to keep a certain amount of tension on the cam chain. They wear over time (the spring gets tired) & so get noisey. They are required !! - You can get manual versions too..

So there's two kinds? Self adjusting which is stock and manual?

Thanx to all the performance mods I've read about in this forum, I'm now able to pop a wheelie in the garage, from a standstill ... ...


And I can get at that pesky K&N oil filter :eek-new: while up there. I've managed to pull off ~5K miles and 2 long road trips using the damn thing, I guess I better change it while I'm ahead.

The stock one is self adjusting and fail every 60 000 km at most. I changed it for the first time at 60 000km, and now I'm at 101 598km and I start to hear it again...

I want to recommend the manual one since the oem one is not that good but since I have zéro experience on them I would say keep it oem.

Edit: 36 000 Miles = 58 000 km. So yeah, you're in the range where it needs to be changed.

 

Hi two years ago my vtec's cam chain was making a racket of a noise, I didn't have money spare to change the cct so I looked on the net, and decided to try and fix, I ended up making my stock cct units manually adjustable, and since fitting I've not needed to touch them.

 

There is a utube video showing how to adjust the CCT's by modifying the spring. Its not that difficult a job.
Personally, if you have gone to the time & effort to remove them, then for me it was a better idea to just install new ones.
