A slightly different sort of question to my usual problems:

My middle fairings have been stolen twice over the last year. Some imbecile has cut around the Allen key bolt and ripped the fairing from the bottom.

Any ideas on how I can secure these/make it very difficult to steal? Any ideas would be useful...

Well if they're cutting them out of the bike, not sure how to stop them. Other than possibly glueing metal backing to the fairing so that the process is harder for them to do it quickly. More of a delay tactic than pure prevention.

That sucks. They did the same both times? Why in the hell, they need them that bad that they would ruin it in the first place to get it? Or just stupid ignorant doing for the hell of it?

Sorry you have a prick in your hood. I just don't understand why someone would damage the connection points of fairings to steal them. What use are they when they have been so damaged? What gen of bike BTW

How about using that clear protector film over the joint?

My thoughts exactly, why would someone ruin the fairing by breaking it off, making it virtually unuseable.
The sad thing is, you see a lot of these on eBay over here with the Allen key bolt hole missing. They also sell for around £80+ making it a nightmare and a pain to buy.

That is actually a pretty good idea, or at least metal around the bolt area.

Ova' 'ere we'd scratch our social security # onto the fairing, making it maybe a bit harder to sell.

Squirrelman. I don't know is about down there it here we long ago stopped the social security number for engraving. Here, if your property is located, Poli e can't find out who that number belongs to. We encourage a driver's license number be engraved. Most police have reasonable access to the name and address associated to that number. An abbreviation for your state or province e makes that task easier.

Bintings, where abouts are you? Why would they need to cut around the allen key bolt hole? It's hardly impossible to undo, half the time it's vibrated loose to the point where finger pressure is enough to crack it off.

    Im based in South London.

It puzzles me too... the first time the hole was cut sloppily, and the second time it was cut neatly around the bolt, both times parked in the same area.
At first I thought vandalism but it didn't make sense why this would be the case, It seems as if it is someone who knows the bike but has no tools with them at the time.

I'm in Deptford (wasn't me!). The best (and most patronisingly obvious) advice I could give is simply don't park there or anywhere near it. I ALWAYS stick my bike in indoor carparks, even if it means walking a way or getting a short bus journey etc.
