    Hi guys,

Here are the pics of my handle bar conversion.. Test ride tomorrow but I am almost upright and it feels great.

It was a painful experience (many challenges) but I am happy with the result.

    enjoy..

Looks like it's a bit wider and pulled back about 3 inches. How does it feel? how much for the kit?

I didn't get cables and it was a major pain in the arse to get right.

the acellerator lines are quite tight. I re threaded the clutch cable and its fine. Front brake is ok too.

Tightness only happens on full lock so I am not so concerned about it.

First ride is today so I'll let you know how it feels. It was around $300 plus postage.

I used everything from my bike. The bar ends had to be adjusted to the different bars but I was able to mix parts from another bar end set.

The bars need to be wrapped for the instruments to fit. Alst the instruments have a bung which fits into a hole on the old bars. I ditched this on them..

StreetFighter Inc.-StreetFighter and Sportbike accessories. One stop shopping for StreetFighters & Naked Motorcycles are the guys who I ordered them through.

P.S. the gold bars come at an extra price.. $20

OK... How was it to ride.

WOW. There is no doubt it is different but...

My back was straight and comfort was excellent. No back hassles or wrist hassles.

I feel so much more confident cornering (probably due to the bikes I have had the most experience on which are monster/cruiser styles).

My bike now has the comfort and handling of a monster with the reliability and engineering of a honda.

For me this is a WIN - WIN - WIN.

It is definately making the bike a lot more like a tourer rather than a sport bike but thats sweet for me.

I am so pleased with this mod and I am looking forward to many more 1 hour plus rides now that it is so comfortable. I always used to get sleepy fingers before.

The confidence I have in cornering now is at least double what it used to be (this may relate to my riding skill) :)

Tight slow turning is so much easier now...

Not at this stage. I rarely use full lock while riding, mainly when I am manouvering the bike like parking etc.

The cables are tight and if they aren't too expensive get the throttle cables...

This is, hands down the best thing I have done with my bike. If you have comfort issues and are prepared to spend some coin I can't recommend them more strongly.

I'd get the longer throttle cable though. You can get by with the others...

Riding it now is sooooo much more comfortable and enjoyable. I'm actually riding faster now.

Please change your throttle cable for a longer one. If the throttle cable sticks or binds it could be very dangerous. I'am in the process of putting the LSL on mine right
now and will definitely get new throttle cables. I want to have a discussion with STG or Spiegler first because in their product description they claim that the kits come
with everything needed to do the conversion. Not true. I know this is an old thread but I hope you have already changed the cables for your safety.

Again you guys do not disappoint. I am taking in all the information. As to what changes I have done,,,nothing I just did the numbers and then asked you guys. I do realize that numbers really don't tell the whole story.

    Again my thanks

    Hi Pap11y,
great pics and write up. I am considering this mod as my hands go numb after a long stint - getting old. Good to see a recommendation.:tickled_pink:

Has anyone compared the pull back, width, and height compared to the Heli bars?

    This is my question too.
The standard kit with the low bars doesn't appear to provide that much change but without a side by side comparison I'm speculating.

I'm considering the Lsl kit or maybe Helibars, can anyone say if there's much difference between the two? I think the helibars might look more stock, I don't think the genmars would make enough difference, and I don't like the fact that they don't grip all the top of the fork tube.

    Lsl

I ordered the Helibars for my '98 VFR and mounted them and then returned them for a refund. They do look much more stock which may be why so many people seem to like them. I went with the LSL and was much happier with the lean angle and it just felt more natural for me with the much wider grip. I was used to riding a 1991 750 Nighthawk. Lean angle is not quite as upright as my Nighthawk was but its doable for me. I just could not get used to riding with the narrow bars of a sport bike. I ordered new throttle cables (plus 3")from Barnett out of California. You can get by with the stock cables but it won't be routed correctly to not jam, kink or stretch. Everything cleared with no interference. LSL is more work to install than the Helibars but well worth the time. These bars made the difference for me of having to sell the bike to loving it.

So I installed Helibars on my 08 a while back and while they did make a "slight" difference, they didn't completely satisfy me. Not wanting to sound like a mangina, but I have issues with my lower back that need to be addressed if I want to continue riding the Viffer, which I do. Sitting more upright is the key. Do Speigler LSL bars position you more upright when compared to Helibars? If so, is it a significant amount, or just a wee bit? If I make the change will also add a set of stainless brake cables at the same time. I didn't need to change the OEM ones in order to install the Helis, but I might as well go the whole hog and it will also allow more length for adjustments.

Don't know about the helibars, but on my wife's 2008 I put the LSL bars on and there is difference in measures. Bike on center stand. LSL bars approximately 6" higher from the ground and an 1 1/2" set back from original bars. Rotating the bars once in position can increase and decrease the over bar height but not much. My wife is 5' 4" and it made a big different for her. I am 5' 10" and would like a little more bar height if I were to ride the VFR for 400 to 600 miles per day.

I also had to use ST1300 throttle cables. Just slightly longer and made a better install following original cable routing.

If I were to put on more upright bars for me I would look at drilling the top tree and put on bar risers and something like a 1 1/8" Pro Taper handlebar. I think this would allow for more bar height. But potentially create other issues that would need to be addressed, turning clearance, longer cables and hoses, etc.

As far as the lower back pain some good core body strengthening exercises go a long way.

Grabcon; appreciate the info on the LSL bars and will definately take that under advisement. However, will pass on the medical advice as core body strengthening excercises don't do much to reduce pain from degenerative disc disease in the L4 and L5 region, accompanied with the enevitable arthritis. But they do go a long way towards keeping my muffin top from rolling too far over the top of my leathers; so it's all good. Cheers.
