I picked up a set of headers from a 5th gen VFR (2000), I'm going to install them on my 04 so I can get rid of the Cat Converter.

What am I looking at for work here?
Will removing the cat lower the operating temp?
My cans are gutted, will I need to mess with the FI?

    Thanks

Welcome to the forum! It should lower the operating temp if you remove the cat because it removes all that restricton and improve exhaust flow. I would also assume that the FI could benefit from being remapped if you remove the cat, however you would also need to think about the O2 sensors, as they will now be reading a different reading without the cat, and they might throw everything out of wack trying to get things back in order. Some guys have done the pair valve block off...have you done this?

Someone else on here can probably add more info than I.

    Thanks!

One of the problems I have with this bike is I'm the second owner. The fellow I bought it from appeared to be well versed in VFR as he cut open the cans and gutted them in very nice fashion but I'm not sure what else he did to the bike.

This winter I plan on tearing it apart to install the 99 exhaust and the PC and add a feww accessories. At that time I'll have a better idea as to other mods.

How would I know if the "pair valve block off" was done?

I had someone do this on my bike. The temp doesn't actually change much at all, surprisingingly.

Weight does drop, of course, though. In fact, if you could weigh the non cat headers I'd be very curious - I forgot to weigh them before the swap.
