    Hey Guys,

I have a stock 98' that I just picked up and the guy said it will need a front
tire soon, both tires are dunlope sportmax qualifiers. The rear has only about
100 miles on it but the front doesn't look that bad. What kind of life do these
tires get with normal to aggressive mixed rideing? Also what is the concensous
of the best tires for the 5th gen?

The qualifire will not last long milage, maybe you should try Pirelli Diablo 2CT.
I had Dunlop 207 and they lasted for 3500 km,and qualifire is softer than 207 so figure it out.I was quite satisfayed with front D207 and rear D220(aprox.5-6kkm)but 207 is out of production so curently I ride Bridgestone BT20 and it is disaster, never again!Next set will be Pirelli or Metzeler.
    Good luck with the choice!

Are you planning on carving canyons, touring or commuting? Best tire depends on your purpose. I can only comment on what I've tried. For my type of riding (twisties - weekends only) I like Michelin Pilot Power - don't square off, but don't last long. I have tried Pilot Roads and didn't like them as when they square off they feel terrible. I may try Pilot Road 2CT next as they are quite different from the old P Roads. I've tried Bridgestones and didn't feel confident on them.

Onto my 3rd set of Michelin Pilot Powers and find they are brilliant.

Powers have plenty of grip wet or dry with a quick turn in and confidence inspiring at full lean. Then again will probably go for the Michelin Road 2's next as feedback from several people indicate they are very nearly as grippy as the Powers and last a lot longer.

Metzeler Sportec M3's been working good for me. I got about 4000 out of the back, and now it is about time for replacement pretty soon. Depends on your type of riding though, and what pressures you run.

The link posted indicates the Michelin Road 2's win ?

As for the Z6's have followed a couple of VFR's with them and observed first hand seeing Z6's step out mid corner when pushing it on a wet road and Power equiped VFR's weren't phased during the same conditions.

Wear/life is of course a different issue, swings and roundabouts one guesses.

I have a 'Q' on the rear - I really like the performance of it. We'll see how the milage goes. - Before that I had a 208 on the rear and I burned it up in 2800 miles. I still have a 208 on the front, I think I'm at about 3800 on it now.

Consensous? Whoa! -- Tires - Oil - Chain lube - everybody has their 2 cents.

I had a set of Road 2s fitted last week. Can't tell you much about them yet, the only riding I've done on them has been to & from work.

No worries, after scub in type up a quick review after your next twisties.

Birdman has had them on his Bluebird for over 4000kms now and raves about them, normally he'd have well trashed a Rear Power by now but the R2's are still looking good. :first:

For a mix of normal to more aggressive riding, I like my Pilot Powers.

But for touring, I'm a huge fan of the Avon Storm ST's. Just took a set from left coast to NYC and back and there is still plenty of meat left, the rain performance was amazing and they have great grip when you find a few twisties on your trips...

Lots of good tires, but there's no point in finding the perfect tire while riding on a tire that is about to go... Get your new tires before you need them so you aren't temped to ride on the worn out ones. Rims have poor traction.

best tire i have had so far the bt021's...instantly made the bike handle closer to my 05, and mileage has been great! love em!

so far 10,000 km and half the tread left on the back...traction great!

then again i just ride fast in the mtns , and do long trips, not a roadracer or track runner...not up on those specs

Michelin Pilot Power, very smooth, very sticky, confidence inspiring tire. Rode about 500 miles Saturday, and I am impressed. I ride very agressively on very twisty roads. Had a couple of 10mph switch backs, or V-backs (road actually looked more like a V, scary), and lots of tight sweepers, never lost an inch of traction.

They are brilliant, just one thing to watch for is when they wear down in the centre they get thin and hole easy.

With 3500 miles on the rear of mine went slowly flat after I picked up a schard of fractured windscreen safety gass on a wet rainy road late one dark winters night. :frown:

The good news was the satisfaction felt after trying out my punture repair kit in bad conditions and making it home safely.

been running the Dunlop Qualifiers for over 2k miles now. I like them. Doesnt look like much for rain, but I've been thru some storms with them and our city floods real easily so I went thru some good size puddles were they shoot water 3 feet past your head.
