Was having lunch today with some guys from work and the subject of my bike came up - one of the non-biker guys asked me if my bike was a "crotch rocket" - LOL. As I started to say no, not really, one of the other dudes who is a biker guy and is familiar with my bike interrupted me and told the other guy that yes, my bike IS a crotch rocket. I'm confused now - hence this poll :glee:

Exactly, WTF is a crotch rocket? Until someone else intelligently defines the term, it's a term used by ignorant people that are narrow minded, uneducated, or just plain stupid.

    Crotch:

    crotch
    kräCH/Submit
    noun
the part of the human body between the legs where they join the torso.
    synonyms: groin; More
the part of a garment that passes between the legs.
a fork in a tree, road, or river.

    Rocket:

    rock·et1
    ˈräkət/
    noun
    plural noun: rockets
    1.
a cylindrical projectile that can be propelled to a great height or distance by the combustion of its contents, used typically as a firework or signal.
    synonyms: missile, projectile
    "guerrillas fired rockets at them"

    Both words are nouns.

I have my insurance company convinced it is a touring bike. I am sticking with that.

I think crotch rockets are just sport bikes. I love my VFR but it is not a sport bike. Its a sport touring bike. CBR 1000rr, R1, ZX 10, RSV4, 1098's GSXR 1000 ect those are crotch rockets.

Just wondering about the "biker guy" if he rides a Hardley or some other cruiser style bike. Everything is a crotch rocket to a Hardley..........................:nelson:

Yeah I've seen magazine comparo-reviews of the VFR in the "sport touring" category - I remember reading one about the 8th gen where they said that the VFR is on the "sports" side of the sports-touring spectrum. Interestingly, Honda USA has the Interceptor lumped into the "sports" category on their website, but then again that's where they also categorize the Grom :glee:

Regardless of how it's categorized though I think it's a fantastic bike!

Think these days when people refer to bikes as crouch rockets, Im almost positive there referring to some dick, extremely loud pipe, riding recklessly with his t-shirt flapping in the breeze.
And positive worker rides a Hardley

I tell people it's more of an "old man's crotch rocket" geared more towards touring and that it rides smoother and more comfortable than a true crotch rocket.

LOL, crotch rocket was a term used back in the day from when Irode the H2 ;) which was more a witches broom stick, but I'll take crotch rocket, at least that means some sort of control.. I have to laugh, I hear it all the time from the uneducated. It is what it is any bike can be that's not a cruiser style. More along the meaning of fast and it's between your legs, I get it, it's ok with me. As far as the VFR goes, it can be, depending on the rider. But most folks look at the R series bikes are the ones and since most don't pay that close attention, the VFR does sorta looks like one, so we get the label. I have it as a standard for insurance reasons.

Ditto to this. You have to look at the background of the person calling a VFR a "crotch rocket". There are many uninformed people who would call a Ninja 250 a crotch rocket simply just because it's fast looking. And of course officially the VFR is a "sport touring" motorcycle but try to explain that to the layperson. "Huh.... it goes fast but you can go long rides with it.... but why is riding so hard...?"

Yep, many uninformed people went gaga when seeing my old Ninja 300 - at least until I started it up - LOL. They'd get even more excited when they saw it was a Ninja "Special Edition" :glee: I actually got more compliments on the little Ninja than my Interceptor! In their defense the bike did look kind of bad-ass, the previous owner had lowered it and put a fatter rear tire on it to help disguise it from looking like a learner bike (see pics). As I recall I even had a few sport bike riders ask me if it was a 636!

Edit: I'm gonna add a vid of my old N300 - since I started this thread I should be allowed to reminisce a little - LOL
