VTR250F Project, Fairings and all brackets are finalized. Tear down and build it again with everything pretty.

That's pretty darn nice, that explains. For someone so close surprised we haven't hooked up, or me getting my ass there. ;)

I am meeting you south this spring. Then you can travel up and we'll ride the SnoHo River Valley.

VFR too nice 4 track bike!

I am not familiar with the difference in caliper size between the two bikes. I had an F2, even raced it at S.I.R., thought it had brakes well matched to the bike. How much better are the VFR calipers? Are they the same size as F2 calipers and the pads are different?
Admire your drive in doing these bikes. You must be proud? I am off work right now, but have been very lazy. Motivational difficulty.

They were well matched to the bike. I have ridden and raced them (Heavyweight GP Champion). The 1990+ VFR front calipers have the same size pistons but accommodate pads with a much larger swept area for the extra weight.

Plus I was able to figure out how to combine the parts to get the larger diameter disks.

Excellent work as always, super clean cluster. I need to polish the lens on my speedo, everytime i look at it i'm annoyed with the slight haze...

I don't think i've ever seen a VTR done up right, looking forward to that one as well.

Decided the weather had a little project for me inside the shop. Refurbishing a "new" set of gages for the track bike. They were pretty weathered, the lenses weren't great but weren't hammered. The housing were pretty discolored, that blue-ish hue when it's been exposed.

    Dis-assembled.

Here's the stuff after some work.

Here the housings are shot in satin black. Most of the hardware is refurbished. Lenses are polished inside and out. Might go a couple more rounds with something more aggressive, then finish up again. They aren't nearly as bad as the photos and the light make them look. I did another spare speedo at the same time that I couldn't get the reset knob off. That one has a nicer lens and is getting partial restore and put away. All the rubber borders and the tach visor are cleaned and treated with some PJ1 rubber restorer. Time to re-assemble.

nice job! I like the way your work, question: how did you prep the plastic housings? and what kind of paint did you use, I know Krylon has some plastic type paint available in a rattle can, I also know its important to "key" the item your painting along with a flat primer, - Keep up the good work.

Thank you. The housings got a good de-grease and bath with a brush. Then I "wet sanded" them with a green scotch pad to remove the oxidized plastic and and give the paint something nice to adhere to. Yes, Krylon Fusion, satin black. The plastic the housings is made of is ideal for this paint. No primer, the paint went on great and is very durable. It looks like new plastic that I can run my fingernail across it without leaving a mark. I have done many trimmed fenders, old dash panels and misc small covers using the same method.

This set was actually pretty hammered the more I got into it, but they came out great. It was hard to get a good shot because the lenses are so polished I would get bad glare that made them look hazy still. They aren't perfect but pretty damn good. Ready to install. The first restored gauge assembly and upper cowl stay I'll put away for another VFR I am building.

Thank you both! Hopefully I will have some progress on the bodywork soon-ish. I think when the bodywork is white the fairings will show off their lines and reveal the overall look a little better. The first paint job will be pretty quick and dirty just to get it all white and I will incorporate some decals, number plates and some abbreviated stripes to help tie it together.

Are you going to be at the first track Day this year. I'd still like to come out and hear and your bike run when you go.
