As I have mentioned in my intro, I recently traded a Ranger pickup for an '84 VF700 Interceptor. The PO rode it from Knoxville, TN to here in Asheville, NC, a 2.5 hour drive on the interstate. But he decided to go the back way and took US 129 over the mountain ("The Tail of the Dragon") and got lost, eventually making it here in 5 hours with his wife on the back. She was very happy to ride back to Knoxville in the Ranger.

Here's the picture he sent me when he originally asked to trade

My first task was to remove the accessories like the saddle bags, the purple fanny pack strapped to the back, and the speakers mounted on the handlebars. Here's it in progress

It's been cold recently so I've been trying to stay inside. I started cleaning up the mismatched side panels and painting them. I'll post more when I have them finished.

Still have my '83 since new, spent alot of time last summer getting her cleaned up after sitting a long time. Did some powder coating, bought a 6" bench buffer/wirebrush from Harbor freight, used black VHT paint from Auto Zone on alot of parts. (Parts need to be baked to harden). Here is a picture of mine after replacing body parts with used '84 paint scheme. I needed a new tank, so I bought the rest of the parts to match.

Easy bike to work on, Partzilla.com and others have all the rubber parts and gaskets you will need, other part are getting scarce.

The white and red panel after removing the old paint. I made the mistake of using 100 grit because I didn't have anything else. I picked up 600 and 800 later, but you can still see some of the lines even after 4 coats of primer. I cleaned, sprayed, waited, and wet sanded each time. I had to fill in a few holes and fix a crack. They're not perfect, but good enough for me.

Everything is going to stay primer until I can figure out what color I want.

I also pulled off the tail fairing and made some mounting brackets since the plastic ones were broken. They're riveted and epoxied in place.

This past week, I've been digging into the electrical wiring some more and fixing things from the previous owner. I decided to install a new fuse block and wire in a relay. The coil is powered off the wire originally powering the old fuse block. I used some 10awg and an inline fuse to supply power to the block. I made a little aluminum pan and placed it all under the seat

To fit it there, I removed the breather/separator canister and placed those little filters on the lines. Is there any problem with doing that?

I also test fit the plastics to make sure everything looked alright. Another gas tank is on the way.

Everything works fine electrically right now but the ignition coils sound like they're sparking when I first connect the battery. Is that normal?
