You are right it has 4; 2 H4 for low beams and 2 H7 for high beams, each in their own reflectors. Of special note is the H4 is a dual filament lamp, normally for both high and low beams, however the H4 of the 6th gens is only wired for low beams. There is no connection for the second filament. I modified my 2003 with relays and new sockets to have the second filament come on with the high beams, this was controlled by a separate switch so I could run it either way.

Word of caution, if you are thinking of replacing lamps with the high wattage after market lamps, they will be be too much of a load and you will run your battery down in a couple of days. Been there, done that!

Great, have H7 leds in hand and H4's on order. Each is 35W....hope that is not overloading things? Thanks again for the informative post!

LED's draw a lot less than normal filament lamps, you will be fine. The LED placement and size of the array is different than the filaments, therefore your pattern will be a little different than stock, but fine. Have squeezing all the ballasts in the front cowl! I replaces all four too. While you at it, you might want to extend the wires about 4" on temperature sensor in the nose. PIA trying to hold cowl and undo connector at the same time, as you will probably have the cowl off and on a few times.

Does the addition of the 2nd filament being on when in hi mode make much diffence? Thinking about doing a similar mod with these led lamps.

I think I ended up making so that both lo and hi beams could both be on at the same time after I converted to LEDs. LED's were not dual lamps. It made it brighter, giving both close and distance patterns together.
