I now own a 2002 VFR800 that a very dear friend used to own. He was RedDukeRider on this forum. Pete passed away before getting to finish this project. He had a lot of the stuff already like the Ohlins RC51 forks ,the wheel, calipers and lower 929 tree. I bought an upper 929 tree and it worked out great. It used the same bearings as the VFR and made life simple. I am now trying to decide what clipons to use. People seem to use a lot of different ones. I am posting some before and after pictures as I go along. He also had a exhaust system that does away with the cat. system. I am undecided rather to use it or not. Just have to figure things out as I go.

Wow, one part I'm sad, another very envious, as I love these sort of build up projects. Yet if it where I knowing my friend had past in the process, I'm not sure How I'd do.. on that note, way cool on you. yep as you have found lots of persaon bits with Clip ons I say get what you like for the money. I do know also that some times depending on drop and all, my suggestion is to use the RC51, as those also work with the brake and clutch tom foolery, Just saying. Best of.

Pete had a set of clip ons and the way he was talking they might be from a 1000rr. I just cannot get them to work like I want. If you use the RC51 did you mount them below or above the triple trees ? If you use the RC51 tree you would most likely mount them under but if you use the 929 it might be better on top since the 929s are a gull wing design that drops down. Dan Moto has a set that are really cheap and has a lot of adjustment. Most people seem to like them. http://www.dan-moto.com/DM_INT/50mm-wholesale-113_116.html It seems like a good option.

Ya know I looked into this before i went the way i did. and I was thinking the top triple needed to be the 954, IIRC it was preferred due to the clip ons can be mount above. But I'd have to go back and check that. Do you know what mm the RC51 ohlins is? I may have a set of heli bars off the BMW 1000r thinking they are 55mm, I'll need to check these. just thinking here.

If you use the 929 or 954 tree you can use the clip ons on top. Some people say they used the RC51 and still used them on top but they were intended to be used on the bottom.

It's getting closer to being finished. The Dan Moto clip ons came and they worked out great. Waiting on exhaust gaskets and after that it should be pretty much finished. I am very pleased at how it's coming together.
