    In September I bought a nearby (2 owner) 12k mile 2001 VFR 800 FI for $3k

The bike ran very hot and would not freely rev through the entire RPM range, the suspension felt firm but not responsive, it had a 10 year old leather Corbin Seat that was full of dimples and it had a Vance and Hines canister hooked up to the OEM headers with the catalytic converter plus it had the OEM air filter.

I basically did a few very simple things to get the bike running at "full power" by removing the restrictive parts and replacing with higher performing parts, new when possible or like new if available. About $3k was spent and the bike is running totally awesome now

That's fine, don't give up, someday it might make a bit sense to you, when you're "ready" it will still be here.

As soon as I'm ready to butcher my bike, lose power and make a twat of myself worldwide, you will be my first and only port of call.

German horsepower figures are expressed in kW or PS. PS is fairly close to SAE horsepower, e.g., 106PS is equivalent to 104.5hp. Based on the part numbers you showed on VFRD, you apparently fit an ECU from a 1999 German-spec VFR800Fi 72kW (98PS, 97hp) into your US-spec 2001 bike. We don't have consistently measured, worldwide horsepower figures for both European and US models, but we do know that Honda has admitted that the '99 German models were 8PS down on power compared with the '99 non-German European models, mainly due to the former having a catalyst and narrower exhaust tubing. Which means that you have fit an ECU designed for more restrictive headers to your bike in the rather forlorn hope of realising increased "factory" power. The 49-state '01 bikes may or may not have been designed to produce less power than the '01 European models (we don't know--it could also have been the same amount or even more), but even if we assume so, virtually any ECU other than the '99 German ECU would have been a better starting point for such experimentation.

    Ciao,

All that's fine and great to know but does not explain why the bike runs better with the Euro ECU G, how do you explain that ?

It's very easy to "connect the dots" when reading info in order to jump through conclusions, but the issue here is it just won't get at the " truth of the matter"

If everything you've (auto) concluded is true, explain why Power Commander Fuel maps are not "ECU country specific " ?

Fact: Power Commander (global) fuel maps are either Euro or North America, that's a fact which would mean that the only ECU differences affecting fuel maps are only specific to Euro or North America ECU's, which is "not true"

We don't, you have to, but cannot.
Curious, were you dropped on your head as a baby?
    Perhaps from Trump towers?
    Kudos on surviving though.
