Hey newbie here. Just wanted to know a few things before i make a purchase:

    1. What years offer the ABS option?
    2. Is it true that post 98 is all F.I.?
    3. If you were me what year would u get from 98 to 05, price not being a factor?
    4. I've heard the new VTEC engines are not as good as the ones they are replacing?
    5. Any other suggestions please.

Sorry for a typical "newbie" post but going to make a purchase soon. Thanks.

    Hi Jon

I have a 99 VFR so probably am bias, but would say go for the latest model non VTEC VFR. 2002 I think. I have ridden a 2004 VTEC but still prefered the older model. I think that the pre VTEC engine is much smoother, and just as responsive.

Yes, all 800s are FI. The 98 and 99s have a "Choke" lever but it's just a fast idle lever.

    ABS don't know.

There is still the voltage reg problems, see this site for various fixes. Other than that I've not had a problem in 6 yrs.

    Good luck.

    Ian

I believe 2002 was the first year for ABS. All 98 and newer VFRs are FI. I would get a 98-01 the only difference in years are basically the colors yellow for 00, o2 sensors on 00 and 01 along with better mirrors and no more fast idle lever. I rode an 03 before deciding to go with 98-01. I just didn't really like the vtec at all and I also like the look of the 98-01. The engine is much smoother and I love the whine of the cam gears which they got rid of in 02. After looking at and riding several 98-01s I bought a 98 because of the low mileage it had and the fact the owner took such good care of it. I was actually looking to get a yellow 00 but I couldn't pass this one up.

VTEC started in 02. If you want to avoid it stick with 98-01 modes.
