How big of an issue is this?
Seems to just affect tread, but not sure how deep.
No significant loss in tire pressure noted so far.

They are the Bridgestone BattlaxT30 EVOs. :(

When I get the moto reassembled in a bit, I'll move it to inspect the rest of the tire as well as the front.

They are interesting marks. Similar in angle, just one larger than the other.

Very interesting, If I where I, I'd be sending that photo to Bridgestone just to make sure. I get the it could be a thermal tear, but know more than likely how you ride then see what looks to be a puncture too, I'm not sure , but like Bitter was saying, might want to replace this sooner than later IMO. I know saying that is a bummer, but you know the risk and all.

Thanks, Imma say this...I'm not after a tire debate.

This can happen to anyone on any tire.

Just wanna know opinions on what it could be and if it could lead to serious issue. Or if it's just a tread issue, not a deeper one.

I'll send to Bridgestone and see if I get a response.

I do not ride aggressively, just with spirit. I get on it some only after the tires have had at least 30 minutes to warm up. And I do that religiously especially when temps are under 50 degrees.

But who knows, the last time I rode it was only in the forties the whole time and I was on a 90-minute ride, was very spirited for the last half.

Personally I'd just monitor it. Ideally it's just a gash that you got while riding and ran over something. The no loss of air would suggest that the main carcass has not been compromised and that the tread is the only thing that was damaged. Although sending a picture to Bridgestone wouldn't hurt and may give you more peace of mind.

In the mean time, keep an eye on the air pressure and check the damaged section for any odd wear or possibly chunking off of the tread.

I agree with OOTV, just watch air pressure and if that slice gets any worse.
You are leaving in what ? Two weeks---sorry if I missed it but how many miles on those shoes?

I suspect you ran over some sort of sharp road debris. So long as that slice is not deeper than the depth of your treads, under normal riding you should be fine. Keep a close eye on that. If you are going to be getting into it, there is the possibility that those cracks may spread deeper from the stress you put on the tire, and that creates a hazard to not only yourself, but possibly others using the road. Let your gut be your guide. If the thought to change the tire just crosses your mind, then it is time to change the tire. There is a cost to riding a bike. Tires are part of that.

looks like a cut from a broken bottle or piece of glass--typical road hazard. If bridge responds they will say replace it due to liability concerns.

My 2ยข is that there is plenty of rubber and cords below all that gashing--how do i know? i've ridden down to the cords and then dissected the tire to measure and see what was still there and what i was riding on.

Looks like road debris as opposed to thermal tear. Would monitor closely

This was my guess as well. Looks like it is on deep part of tread only. I would watch it and make sure tire holding air. If no air loss, ride on and don't worry.

If it were mine, I would ride it and wear the tire out. My last rear had a cut at least that bad and I'm almost certain it came from some glass I rode through and I ride spirited or more all the time. Your tire has steel belts so there won't be any sudden catastrophic failure if it goes bad. Just my thoughts. Oh, you remind me, I need to re-do my nails......; )

The tires were mounted in July and about 5,000 miles have been put on them.

I was planning on riding somewhere warm over Christmas as I have about 20 days off.

I suppose if I go I should take a list of all the Honda dealers near my route just in case I need a new set....that's if I don't replace them beforehand.

Haulin ass home at around 75 in the diamond lane, had a blow out back tire, swapping side to side, thank God to my dirt bike experience, got it to the shoulder and called AAA since I've had it since 16 years old-- the FUCK on the phone said oh I'm sorry you don't have RV coverage, I replied well fella put it on my coverage and get a truck out here. He said I'm sorry and hung up. Held my bike from tipping over on the shoulder for two hours before I got a truck out ta get me, after having big rigs almost blowing me over in the meantime. Cost me over $200 dollars for a 20 minute tow.
Next day called corporate and let them have it with both barrels that the guy left me stranded with no regard to my wellbeing and that he should be fired.
They payed for my towing and gave me lifetime RV coverage
Always preach, squeaky wheel gets the grease.
Oh that was after a 12 hr shift--- think I was a little po'd?

    Holy shizzz, Duckie!!
    So glad you were okay!!

It's so crap that they make motorcyclists pay for the same RV service that is given to well...big arse RVs. But, what do you do?

That's awesome you have lifetime RV now and that they reimbursed you. What a frickin' nightmare.
