SWAMP, listening to some of my old Swamp records, saw " The Scientists " a few times in the mid '80s think wacky tabaky would have enhanced the expirience at the time.

I forgot how epically ridiculous this video is.
Haven't watched it in a while. I love foreign music.
Features a moto and an epic drifting car at the end.
    You should watch it. Really.

More of the Keith Jarrett trio "Standards in Norway" c. 1994

A sampling of this immense talent is Jarrett, Peacock and DeJohnette riffing on Poinciana made famous by Ahmad Jamal's album "At the Pershing."

Cranking down a subwoofer might help on this one. Peacock plays a double bass and at the time, I think Jarrett was on a Bosendorpher as opposed to a Steinway. The version here was recorded at The Blue Note in NYC in the mid 1990's.

Resurrected some of my vinyl, just listened to Billy Cobham Spectrum LP, and Dennis Coffey Back home LP. Had forgotten how good these were !! Never liked jazz until my dad talked me into going to see Buddy Rich and his orchestra back in the 80's, gotta say I was mesmerised by those guys.

I will listen to anything (somethings just the once) and have been accused of being a Rock Snob because I thought that Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, AC/DC and Led Zeppelin were all better than Meat Loaf !!! I don't have a lot of time for Thrash Metal, to me its just noise but my mam and dad thought the same about lots of my music choices so I guess I have become my parents. But my 3 children grew up listening to Pink Floyd through headphones so as not to be disturbed by anything exterior to the music and still like Pink Floyd now !!!

Now where's my pipe and slippers

Visit Oregon and we will fill that pipe up with some of our local product..;)

Never got to see Buddy Rich live. Plenty vids of him on Utube. Only one of him. He sort of reminds me of watching the really fast guys in racing. They do something and ya say, "OH SHIT he can't possibly do that", then they do it again.

We built a big night club in Toronto that was half disco and half live in the 70's. Stage/dance floor shaped like a key hole so the performers/dancers where 1/2 way out into the room, almost like being in the round. Buddy Rich was one of our opening acts, along with Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Kenny Rogers, fantastic.

Dead Eye, take a listen to this kid: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/tavissmiley/interviews/jazz-pianist-joey-alexander/

Got to see him twice, had tickets for a third time but sadly he died. I can vividly remember looking on stage at the "miniscule" drum kit and thinking "what can he do with that ?" because I was more used to watching rock drummers with HUGE kits on drum risers etc. Boy was I shocked !!! He did a solo just playing 2 sticks against each other....INCREDIBLE. The man was just plain awesome (as were most of the guys in his orchestra, especially a guy called Steve Marcus, a sax player)

When he was in the UK he just about stayed on U.S. time. The concerts started late in the evening (for us) and went into the early morning.

    Privileged to have seen him

Neil Pert did a tribute album to Buddy Rich called Burning for Buddy. All the greatest drummers he could get together with Rich's band. It is big band style music. Billy Ray Cobbim is on it too, saw ham once a long time ago, very good. I still think that Pert is the best ever by far. He is to humble to acknowledge it though. Pert wrote the book Ghost Rider after he lost his daughter to a car wreck and his wife to cancer. About how he hopped on his BMW and rode for a year to heal himself, he was gutted.

Steve Marcus is what is called here, a monster. He was with Rich for years.

Rich's kit was standard trap. What do ya need more when you're that good. Rich used to do a routine with a pair of sticks and a ladderback chair. This was when he was about five.. He was also a tap dancer. Another jazz guy who was a tap dancer was Paul Desmond.

Another famous drummer who used a standard trap set was that guy with The Beagles...;)
