hey guys, my 07 occasionally has problems starting, it basically acts like the battery is almost dead, and the clock and trip odometer reset like they lost power. other times, it has absolutely no issue at all. haven't taken battery to get tested yet but plan to. figured I'd throw it out there on here and see if anyone else has had similar issues. thanks guys!

How long do you go between rides? Are all of your electrical connections tight? Start with replacing the battery as that is likely the culprit.

Had that exact same issue. The battery was the original 07 battery that lasted 8 years. However, I have replaced it with an identical battery, and a year later I have the same issue. I mostly commute to work which is 15mins or so.. So it may be due to short rides. I also noticed that it drops revs to going into intersections. I may have to see if its getting enough charge from the alternator. Or buy a trickle charger. Oh and another symtom was the exhaust sounded tinny as well.

I had the exact same symptoms on my 99. I replaced the battery two years ago and the problem has stayed away. If you didn't already know, the wiring on VFRs is not their strongest point. In particular check the 3-pin plug between the alternator and regulator, 3 yellow wires. The connector gets dirty, then starts to heat due to higher resistance. Initially this will just reduce the charging voltage, but left alone the plug can melt and short out the alternator or RR.

Terry is exactly right. Load test your battery, get a trickle charger and mount a volt meter so you can keep an eye on things. Check out roadstercycle.com. That connector has to go, solder your yellow wires when you get a Super Mosfet kit and you are in the clear. Good luck.
