I know there are many 5th gen threads on bag options and I am quite happy with my big Chase Harper soft bags when traveling. But, I noticed that the bags rub the tail piece paint. Prolonged tripping will actually damage the body work. I am not usually a stickler for how my bikes look but it would be nice to have some sort of hard mounted guard to keep the bags off the painted bits. I guess I could bodge something together but I was wondering if there was anything ready-made available?

Lots of ready made and handy-dandy fixes.

For ready made hardware see "Ventura". Make up a "saddle blanket" from a doubled over and sewn piece of PolarFleece.

A sort of permanent fix for the tailpiece is 3Ms 8 mil clear sheet. A quick fix for the ocassional trip is laying down some strips of gaffers tape. Duct tape will work but gaffers tape is removable leaving no adhesive residue. Some guys use that clear packing tape too. This is OK in a pinch. Gaffers tape is found in theater and film supply supply outfits.

For a permanent fix, and a saddlebags of sorts that don't move see "Giant Loop" out of Bend, Oregon.

OK, That will work in the short term. I would like to make a rack or something that keeps the weight of the bags off the plastic body work.
