Flushed the cooling system today with 50/50 vinegar and water. I remember someone here asked what does the liquid look like when drained. The best part of it is knowing the crap is no longer inside there but in the bucket. The colour of the liquid is slightly milky light rusty-brown, including particles in the bottom of the bucket. Even the second flush of fresh water that came out after was dirty, so I flushed it again with fresh water. The last flush had no debris in the bucket and much clearer.
The 50/50 vinegar and water seems to work well. What do you all use to flush the cooling system?

Picked up my "winter riding set" of wheels from the powdercoater. Just waiting for my PR4's to arrive from Motorcycle Superstore, who had a 15% off sale over Veteran's Day w/e. I'll mount these for the rainy season here in the PNW, and store away the white wheels w/PR2's until Spring.

The 1st pic is an extra wheel I included in the work order, which has since been sold.

Shout-out to AP Coatings in Woodinville, WA - reasonable, professional, and on-time. They also know about properly masking brake and mounting flanges.:star:

Summerland....I'm going to do the same this weekend but with way less vinegar. Was told to just use a couple TBS.

Road into work today. Pulled up to a light, slowly losing feeling in my fingers and legs and started giggling. Saying to myself, "YEP! Totally worth it!!!" Even after getting to my office and noticing while unpacking my lunch i had forgotten to secure my lid on the coffee tumbler, TOTALLY worth it!

What is being used to flush a cooling system depends on what type of radiator is involved. Different materials react differently to different chemicals.

Vinegar is a mild acid, it's approximately 5% acetic acid & 95% water. So diluting it too much might not do anything.

Guess what happens when you pour vinegar into an aluminium pan? Nothing! :)

I do valve lash on my ex500 every 7000 miles, I have to drain the antifreeze due to the tubes that are situated in the heads, they have to be removed before you remove the valve cover, anyway; I drain it via the drain bolt where the water pump is. It always comes out as clean and green as the stuff I choose to put back in. In the past, I have re-used it with no ill effects. Radiators on Interceptors looked good always, something to be more concerned with is your brake/clutch master cylinders and keeping that DOT4 stuff clean every couple of years.

On to what I did with one of my Interceptors yesterday, I did its yearly Amsoil oil swap. Took it on a nice glorious ride, speeds up to 135mph, its so sweet, it will give you cavities (no lie.) 111916.jpg

Man, I love the way your wheels came out! I would just get a dedicated "winter bike" for those salty, sandy, in general crappy conditions. jmho.. :peace: When I was in NJ, I had one bike for the entire year, I know the clear on my fork legs and especially my wheels got blasted by the winter crap.

Thankfully here in the PNW, they don't use salt and last season we got a dusting of snow one day in the lowlands.

My commute to work is more a concern of getting the oil temps up to ensure I burn-off the condensation.

I repacked the single utilised Two Brothers mufflers as it had gotten too LOUD, 115 Decibels loud as most of the packing had burnt and it was only half full in only 11,000 km's of use

It is much tighter packed now with FMF dirt bike repack material

And I put a P1-X quiet tip into it much quieter now with a nice deep bass rich growl not an obnoxious screaming sound

Now it shows a much more respectable 99 decibels at 5000 rpm with a peak of 101 db when closing the throttle after a quick blip

Test was done 1 mtr to the rear and 1 mtr to the side with the db meter mic 500mm off the ground and at 45° from vertical facing the bike

Not at all worried about any lost power but the midrange actually seems better now (no power commander )

Loss of high up weight is the reason for the exhaust as the original is BLOODY heavy compared to aftermarket

When I bought the bike it had gold Pro-Tek brake covers and Gold shorty brake and clutch levers. I bought some blue ones that came in yesterday. They look awesome!

Flushed the coolant out. Pain in the ass draining from the cyclinders too.
    Pretty nasty
    [IMG]

Still looking nasty after 3rd time but out of distilled water. Least i can see the bottom of the bowl now, lol.

Also replaced the radiator cap with a new one hoping that will take care of the leak. Doesn't make sense how that would make it leak after a ride but we shall see. Too bad it's supposed to rain for the next few days.

    Hey MFTIC,

What did you have in your bike? I had that Purple Ice in mine and it failed after a year. I drained it and it looked like purple apple sauce. When I let it settle and there was an inch of muck. I spoke with a ducati mech at work. He suggested pure anti-freeze (coolant). Then put water in your overflow. He had a very convincing argument (I will expand on this if you wish). I have gone full coolant and water in overflow in my last change. It has cooled the bike in every situation.

Put a second fan on right side radiator. Tested. Seems to work. Need to mod the right fairing to get it to fit. Jury still out.
