I have honestly never understood why people do this. I see it all the time in for sale pictures, videos, exhaust videos and the like. It seems double silly to cover it for a pic, yet thousands of people see it, (tho they never even care,) whenever you drive/ride somewhere. So what gives? I personally think it is a misguided attempt at trying to secure your motorcycle, but it just sits there, license plate open to the whole wide world, every time it's in the wild.

    I don't get it.

Rather than point out the obvious that there are a whole bunch of very dishonest people. Take a look at a synopsis of a book that can be bought for about 20 pesos called, "The Manual to Online Public Records". Even three editions back, with a little digging its almost as comprehensive as Lexis-Nexus is for bunch more pesos.

The bad guys may not even be interested in the bike. With either, the Privacy Act of 1974 is out the window.

Sitting out in the wild is one thing with a plate number exposed. Exposing that plate number even on a fairly localized site like Craigslist is yet another level of exposure. Case in point..CR in my hood is the entire Oregon Coast. Then in some threads if the folks at CR don't have enough listings for a given group of things for sale or other the groupings of merch or other expand to other territories.

Even the bad guys who run those scams cover the plates to provide them with another level to the con.

Some vehicles can be on CR or other with stolen plates.

I had a scammer a while ago put up a pic of a supposed bike he was selling, it had a QLD number plate, bike was 6 months old with about 4000ks on it but when I asked about the bike he claimed it was in Perth about 6000, ks away from QLD so seeing the rego plate immediately set alarm bells ringing

Lint, I am glad you brought this up. I can think of several things I can do with a printed out license plate. Get it. You should be paranoid about posting things like this in public especially VIN's. If you do not get it, PM me and I will tell you. Several of my police friends confirmed this also.

Can the rest of us PM you for the same information? Is the information on the Rock Springs PD website or other source that has specifics? Is there some reason this specific information cannot be shared?

Will this be decided democratically or should we send some pesos for brownie points?

    Sharing is a good thing:

Take 1 teaspoon black peppercorns, 1 whole nutmeg, 4 average sticks of cinnamon, 1 teaspoon coriander. These should all be pulverised in a mortar. About a handful each of stoned dates, dried figs, shelled almonds and peanuts: chop these and mix them together. A bunch of canibus sativa can be pulverised. This along with spices should be dusted over the mixed fruit and nuts, kneaded together. About a cup of sugar dissolved in a big pat of butter. Rolled into a cake and cut into pieces or made into balls about the size of a walnut, it should be eaten with care. Two pieces are quite sufficient.
    *
Obtaining the canibus may present certain difficulties, but the variety known as canibus sativa grows as a common weed, often unrecognised, everywhere in Europe, Asian and parts of Africa; besides being cultivated as a crop for the manufacture of rope. In the Americas, while often discouraged, its cousin, called canibus indica, has been observed even in city window boxes. It should be picked and dried as soon as it has gone to seed while the plant is still green."

This info came from friends in LE that I know. I like to pick their brains about anything I can. It is good to know these guys in case you get pulled over for whatever us outlaws get pulled over for. Car and motorcycle thieves download pix of license plates from blogs. They print them out and put them over stolen vehicle tags. They now have a legal plate. A few guys got pulled over and caught. Street racers do the same thing just in case they get chased by the law. If they get chased and can hide, they pull off the fake. If the police get a tag number, they go after the wrong guy who has probably been sitting home reading a VFR blog and having a beer. Do I get a brownie yet?
