Hoping for a quick response here since I would love to get this done before dark.
I'm preparing to put on the GenMar Risers for my '07 VFR, but I'm not sure how to remove the "Clip-Ring" on top of the fork tube. I see where there is a nut on top. Do you remove that? I've loosened the pinch bolt, but as you are aware, I can't get the handlebar over the clip-ring.
I just do not want to mess this up. As always, thanks for your help.

If you are talking the big dia clip on top of the fork tubes - its 41mm on a 5th gen and 43mm on a 6th - I just lever the sucker off with a big screw driver. If I have a circlip plier that I can get to fit - I try that too.

Just my humble opinion but I have always considered that clip as overkill. Since I am a tinkering fool, the first time I make a change, I just bang the thing off and never replace it. Its just an extra step that I dont have to do anymore. I did it on my 4th gen and also did it again on my current 5th. I have found no ill effects in 10 yrs + on running viffers like that. You should be fine if you decide to leave it off too. Just final torque the bars per spec in your manual, youll be ok.

    Good luck with you mod.

Whoa! I reread your post and heads up! On that bolt you are talking on top of the fork, DONT undo that! I not sure about the 6th gen setup, but you may have a fork spring in your face, I think it will undo the fork cap. There is the one adjustment that loosens/tightens the fork spring. You can play with that. Anyhoo no you dont have to mess with it to do want you want right now.

    GenMar Risers - Stop Clips

OK guys, I got it figured out. Thanks for your help. I turned the clip to get to the open end, and as I turned, the clip pretty much came out on it's own. After that, installing the risers was a breeze. Interestingly enough you do not use the stop clips for the install. I put them up in a safe place in case I need them one day.

See those preload adjusters that you have carefully hidden under those awful top caps ?

Well no, obviously they can no longer be seen, but anyway - they should both be set to the same position...

Thanks Rogue. You would "think" having bought it new the Honda Dealer would have set them correctly. I'll pop off that "ugly":) cap tonight and adjust to match.

sadly no, I wouldn't think that
I would hope it, but wouldn't expect it

and if you think the cap is ugly too, you can just leave them off, I do

little clip ring is just there for an added measure of safety, can't get your clip ons off with it in place, if the unthinkable should ever happen
when I run without the risers in place, I re-install mine
chances are exceedingly thin it would every be needed, but it certainly doesn't hurt

I am unclear on why Genmar risers are necessary. Why can't you just raise the clipons up the forks and tighten them in place. I took mine up to flush with the fork cap and they seem stable to me. I suppose you wouldn't want the pinch clamps to loosen up with no locating pin but I have been riding for 30 years and I have never had a handlebar bolt spontaneously loosen itself.

    Well ..

Perhaps you own a torque wrench and have never over tightened or under tightened a bolt (especially one which fastens into cast alloy) .

Perhaps the locating pegs ensure that your bars are in the correct orientation and you won't ride off with them at different heights or odd angles and trap your thumbs on the tank ..

All bolts have an inbuilt ability to slacken when you need them not to , and to stubbornly refuse to slacken when you do need them to..
