Has anyone seen any dual exhaust upgrades for a fifth generation VFR? My buddy just got a SV1000, and the dual exhausts on that bike make me jealous. It sounds amazing.

    Thanks,
    Mel

A used WOLF system would be your only option, though they're rare as hen's teeth, attract major attention on EBAY when the occasional one pops up, and demand a really good dollar for a 7 Y.O. exhaust.

    Or build your own:

Whoa, that looks really good. I am guessing it sounds amazing as well. Is that the Wolf System, or something you designed? And does it ever hit the back tire when riding two-up?

you just missed a WOLF set on ebay but it went for quite a bit IMO. I'm thinkin any of these custom shops that do pipe bending could duplicate it for the right cash... I haven't checked into it yet, but it's one of the things that I have an interest in. Just further down on the list of possible upgrades (which are great indeed!)... Luckily the VFR is great the way it is so upgrades are not necessary just fun to contemplate...

Do you know how much it went for? I already have a high mount Micron, and I like the sound of it, but a dual exhaust system is on another level. It would be hard to decide between a dual exhaust or a powder coating my rims for the next upgrade.

Ahhh, too many problems in my opinion. Sounds like it gets your battery (and your seat) dangerously hot. From what I read, Wolf supplies a kit to raise up the back end about 1-1.5 inches to clear the tire. I must be one of the few people out there that still likes a side mounted pipe.

Here is one e-bay ad. Looks like the pics were removed. $1025.00 I think it said.

I definitely wouldn't do all that for a dual exhaust system. I like upgrades that don't require extensive reworking of the basic VFR configuration. Looks like getting the rims redone might be a better investment.

I built the system myself. Here's a thread on the buildup:

    http://tinyurl.com/2cwm6c

There is a slight amount of contact between the up-pipe and my hugger at full compression with a passenger, but only if you hammer a set of railroad tracks at speed or something like that. Riding solo, I haven't had any problems. Fully loaded with bags all the way to california and back, no contact anywhere.

A slight redesign of the up-pipe, perhaps forming it into an oval shape in that area might be helpful.

If I ever have to refinish the pipe, I'll probably do that.

Well, I made my own aluminum undertray and had it coated with high-temp ceramic coating and haven't noticed any exceptional underseat heating.

Even after a long ride, I've removed the seat and felt the topside of the undertray and it's not too hot to keep your hand on, can't be that bad.

Damn, Cannuck, that was an extensive modification. I definitely don't have the resources for that, but maybe someday - it's not like I ever plan on selling my VFR. The quote from your wife was the best.

    Thanks,
    Mel

that's a helluva job. it turned out great. I'd love to have something like that, but I ride too damn much to have my bike apart for days... hmm, maybe I need a 2nd VFR for mods then sell the first when I'm done... that would be cool...

Sounds like you did your homework on this on. I think the high temp ceramic coating was a necessary addition, as I heard the bare aluminum battery box got very hot. Looks damn nice! Good work!

Ahhh YOU CAN DO IIIITTT!!! it's not that bad. I cut an existing C-5 Two Bros slip on and had a mid pipe made. it fits under the stock seat, but I've since bought a single sargent.....Wifey don't even look at the bike...so I don't bother askin' LOL. Speaking of redoing wheels! I'm goin to strip them down this week and polish them.....I "do" like the black, but only if it's a glossy black like the gixxer wheels. Mine are kinda dried up......and I clean them all the time!! I'll see if I can get some pics.
