In a sense, yes. If all the components are working right everything is fine. If there's a failure then the possibility of a mishap is there, especially if one blindly relies on it working. In Dani's case he did not suspect an issue and turned on the throttle. What would have normally been (for him) a smooth acceleration was an abrupt amount of HP causing him to slide and high side. This is what I am trying to point out, if someone relies on an aid to keep them in check, if a failure were to happen without the rider paying attention to a possible warning light (if there is one) or being cognizant of it, a similar result could happen.

If you place Lint's example here, ("...knowing that the bike's computer has my back, just made it fun as hell. I've played around with TC in a car, but in a bike it's a blast too."), he was expecting the traction control to work, would would have happened if it failed. Well according to him, he'd would have smacked into a tree.

A colleague of mine had to replace the main board for the ABS on his BMW, cost him a bit over 3 grand (AUD) and that was part only, not labour. Considering he only paid 10 grand for the bike, which was a steal, it could have been worse, but it wasn't so much of a bargain after that. I suspect that you guys get far better pricing on BMW bikes and parts there than we do here but yes, replacing major components on these modern bikes with their clever gadgets could get quite pricey and most new tech tends to fall in the category of what I like to call "delicate little flowers" and takes some years before it really becomes robust. Some of these new supersport bikes, though would be close to unrideable without all the tech, so I guess if you want a couple of hundred horsepower, then you'd better have the wallet capacity to pay for the tech because the bike won't be a lot of use without it.

All well and good until the day it fails, ask Danny P or Lorenzo what happens when you are used to TC & TC fails ? Serious high side, it has a place on a track & on the road as a safety aid, but should not be relied on, it basically means your talents do NOT meet the bikes capabilities.

In defense of myself, I wasn't thinking about traction control, nor had I any plans to test it. It was all after the fact that I realized that the computer saved me that made it fun. I may have been misleading in how I wrote the above. I didn't plan on pushing the bike, at least not anymore than I would have pushed my own old school non TC bike. However, in the following second or two when I realized what happened, I thought it was fun to slide the rear out in the turn, leave a "darky" and ride on safely.

You don't have to explain yourself. It's like going to the RNC Convention and discussing climate change. I would rather have it and not need it, then need it and not have it. All it takes is one avoidable trip to the hospital to change an attitude or outlook.

When speaking of riders the caliber of Marquez and Pedroza and a shitload of the other fast guys who race at that level. I figure they have all the toys that money can buy to allow them to do the shit they do and likely have several boxes of those farkles we are discussing as back up.

We sure don't want Lint smacking into a tree either, farkles or not. That would really hurt.

Are darkies anything like skidmarks? Usually adding some bleach to wash water will take care of the latter.

Lint if you liked the XR you will freaking love the RR, here's my test ride of one below - complete with me getting scolded by the BMW lady :beguiled: If you listen closely at the 17:55 and 18:52 marks I think you can hear the traction control kicking in when the rear wheel chirps on upshifts. I recommend cranking up the volume :)

Shame on you for burning up that nice lady's gas. LOL I had to notice, You said God more times than Donald Trump said "disaster" in any of his stump speeches.

The lead rider in the green vest was really smooth.
