My new 2014 VFR800 came from the dealership with the passenger seat installed. I decided to put the cowl on instead. After the grab rails were removed and the grab rail covers were placed, one of the steps in the manual says to "install and tighten the bolts securely." In the photo, this step is the bolts where the two blue arrows are.

The issue is that the bolts don't catch in the holes in the grab rail covers. The grab rails have threads that allow these bolts to catch, but the grab rail covers do not. It almost seems like the bolts don't have to go back in, but it's a specific step listed in the owner's manual. Everything seems to be lined up correctly.

Has anyone else had this issue?

(Note: The "grab rail mounting bolts/washers" are a separate step, and they went back in with no issues.)

    Thanks!

There should be 2 metal clips one over each hole on the fairing. They may still be attached to the grab rails.

That's exactly what it was. I swear I looked on the rails before, but I never even noticed the clips were there. Thanks!
