To my knowledge the differences between the F1 and F2 are limited to color (F2s are pearl while) and instruments (F2 uses squared-off pods). Any part listed for the VFR700 will work, including plastic, and parts listed for the VFR750 will work as well, except for the saliently different engine parts, which I think are limited to the crankshaft and cams.

Color options(RWB, Pearl White, Blue & Gray, Euro color may have some different schemes), instrument cluster, the F2 not coming out until 87' has a better rear shock w/ a longer spring. All parts to my knowledge are interchangable 700 to 700; 750 to 750 for engine parts for cylinders(700 shorter) rods(700 shorter) cams & gearing are different between the 700/750. Other than that all parts will cross to the best of my knowledge & experience.

I thought the F2 was the California emissions equipped version?

Nah, there's California emissions versions of the 750, 700, and 700F2. I have an '86 F2 and there's no emissions junk on it, and never was.

"There were three models, and they lasted for two years. First,
there was a 750cc model essentially the same in appearance
and specification (except for the usual Canada vs USA differences)
to the Canadian model. Next, there was also a destroked 700cc
    tariff-beater, called the VFR700 Interceptor.
Both these models were white with red and blue trim, and round gauges.
Thirdly, and most interestingly, was the VFR700F2. This bike
was all white, with understated gold pinstriping, and an automotive-style
instrument panel which was essentially what you see now on the
90-93 VFR. In fact, this model bears many visual similarities
to the 90-93 models. This F2 model was also available in
dark blue and silver metallic, with silver wheels."

So apparently there were no RWB F2's...and the easiest way to ID the F2 is the dash board.

Nope, they're completely different bikes. 86 and 87 VFR's are the same

the VF's are not the same as VFR's.
