I stupidly created scratches on one of my forks removing old registration stickers off my 1997 VFR Any idea if these are painted or clearcoated and if so what color/product matches so I can refinish the fork leg?

    Thank you.

Most stickers that are put on forks can be removed with paint thinner, Stoddard solvent, barbeque starter fluid, lighter fluid or VM&P naptha. Pry away a corner with a soft tool (wood or plastic) and with a small brush start dabbing some of the solvent on the adhesive side pulling gentlely until the sticker is off. Stronger solvents like lacquer thinner, acetone, MEK ect will dissolve paint or coatings or at least screw it up.

IMO,to fix the above problem, both fork legs will have to be painted to match. If the scratches are down to bare metal, feather the edges and spot in with primer, re-sand and repaint.

Pretty sure they are painted, I see no clear coat, I have a set ready for the de link here off a super hawk and they could use a good coat of something. Been thinking about what the fall out would be having them powdered coated vs. good ole paint. yea you be best to do both if you're anal like me, drive me nuts them not matching. guess I can rattle can it first and see how i like it, but know road debris and certain bugs would probably show some good nicks, where powder coating wouldn't be so, food for thought. for sure.
