I am putting together an 83 VF750F that was an early Honda product research bike and it is missing several parts. Rather than spend the next 5 years of my life searching for specific parts, I would like to buy a complete bike that I can pull off what I need and then part out the rest. I have found a good deal on an 84 VF700F that is local and from what I am seeing...it might just be perfect for what I need.

The question is...are there any parts that wont cross over between the 750 and 700?

Please let me know your thoughts.

Keep in mind that the bike is most likely going to be a display only item when I am done with it. Im not concerned with the performance as much as the looks and general fit of the parts.

Essentially everything should be interchangeable (at least from production 83 750 to production 84 700)

    And we need pictures.

Don't know what you mean an early product research bike, I bought my 83 when they first came out (made in 2/83 VIN 005994). Except for the hand made HRC race bikes, parts should be the same for 83, 84 & 85s. I believe the 86's were first major change.

This is vin 001831. I don't think it differs in any way from a regular production bike, (it was basically a press bike). I have paperwork on it from the Honda Product Research Department, etc. It was the bike that Cycle Guide Magazine used for their long term test bike (3000 miles). They awarded it the Bike of the Year award in 83 and chrome plated the whole thing for the cover shot of the magazine. I see it as a pretty historic bike as a result of that history...Im just trying to put it back just like it was for the cover shoot.

I remember that cover! Man that's a lot of chrome to keep polished! Even more than a Harley. What parts do you need? What kind of shape is it in now? Any pictures?

After the magazine was done with it , it was sold to a local guy who started to put it back to "normal" but never finished it. Tank and plastics were painted, smaller items replaced or stripped of the "chrome". Seat was swapped for a Corbin. Carbs and pipes were removed at some point and lost. Then it sat in a warehouse for the past 30+ years totally neglected. I picked it up two years ago and have been staring at it for a while now..finally I am ready to dive in and bring it back to its former glory. I'd like to make quick work of it and then perhaps run it through one of the Vegas auctions and see where it lands.
