    Hey all.

I need help with a diagnosis.

On my way home today and can her what sounds like a chuffing noise. I think it was from the rear but can't tell.
It was only present when under power. As soon as I stop accelerating it goes away.

    Any ideas ???

What RPM? Put the bike on the center stand and rotate rear wheel, watch chain for stiff spots!

Look for vacuum leaks in the emissions plumbing between the "V". Mine ( also a 2002) were so badly deteriorated that I replaced all of them, from the 5 way junction to under the throttle bodies. It only sounded bad when accelerating under load, almost like metal scraping on metal. If nothing else, if they look deteriorated on the ends, take 1/2" off them, slip them back on and see if it makes a difference.

Started to have a look this evening.
Thought I would start with the chain and sprockets. They don't look overly worn but the chain moves enough to touch the Swingarm. I've adjusted it and I think it's at the farthest point of adjustment now. In my opinion it's still a little too loose but not far off and the noise is still there.

Happens at all rpms. The noise speeds up as the bike does but it's definitely not fast enough to be related to the wheels or brakes etc. At 30mph it's like a slow steam train chuffing away
