Can you shoehorn a later 700/750 into the 500 frame

I wish I could but I do believe the 700/750 is a lot wider.

Honestly this 500 is shoehorned in there... What a pain to get out. Wish the other side of the frame was removable too

    Update:

Driving home with new motor. Check these guys out on eBay. Paid 400 cash for motor. He jacked price up on eBay to hold it for me. Class A shop many vintage parts

Also he had a vr 250 motor. It caught my interest. Would be cool as a little project is this literally a split in half 500 motor

    [IMG][IMG]

Are parts harder to find than the 500

prettyyyy. nice to see you'll be back on the road just in time for the wet weather to kick in. did you do a valve adjustment while you were in there? if so, how hard was it?

Honestly I did not. The motor is bone dry I didn't want to be rotating it around. I think I'm going to pull it all apart again this winter and start powder coating everything. I don't have many days left until end of season but I will ride until snow flys. I am going to take it much easier on the old girl.

supposedly if you stay below 10000rpm you can make these engines last a while. I'm sure that it can wait til winter to do the valves though.

It was a running motor with video from cold start. And I picked up a bore scope and I looked inside all good. But after it fires 1-2x from cold if it needs a adjustment you should hear it.

So a few things happened today. First off trying to connect fuel line I dropped the tank and dented/ scratched it. I'm very upset.

    [IMG][IMG]

But I got it to fire. All good at first. 1200rpm

I noticed that it was not as snappy as before. Very slow to rev and come back down.

And the rpm climbed to 5k. Then started rolling some gross smelling smoke.

It smoked at fire up. The plugs where wet with oil. Must have been from tilting one side to other. Initial smoke was no concern. I painted motor then threw fresh plugs in. I'm on call for work this weekend and haven't had a full hour all weekend to mess with it. But now I'm bummed and concerned.

I assume the rev is from a air leak. I'm going to re check the carb boots but just as I was going to shut it off I seen some smoke and ran to get my phone.

So much time and money it's really beating me up. I just wanna ride

So I was cruising along, 95mph or so.
I am going to take it much easier on the old girl.

Good to see you have realized some things need to be taken easy

I'm 50/50. I am going to take it a little easier on her. Not that a beat the crap out of it before but idk. I'm so bummed over the tank. I think I had a harder time putting the fuel line on than I did putting the motor in the bike.

If smoke does not go away and compression is good, then valve stem seals.
