I needed to go for a ride today so I went for a rip to Hecla Island Provincial Park.

I had originally planned on only a short trip today but plans changed and time opened up for me to get in a longer one.

Hecla Island is located on one of the largest inland freshwater lakes. The lake itself eventually drains into the historical Hudson Bay.

Round trip I logged almost 400 kilometers.

The colours were beautiful, the roads empty, and the weather was fine averaging between 18-21 Celsius.

This may very well be one of my last longer rides for the year with potential snow looming in the forecast.

It was a really nice day to ride. I had originally thought to go to Riding Mountain National Park but I got going far too late.

Sweet location, looks like a good ride. Oh if I am not mistaken you mentioned chasing the northern lights recently , I am soo jealous. I may one day make the ride up through buffallo,NY past Niagara and on up.. How far north would I have to go and when to have a good shot at seeing the Northern Lights?

Fall is always been the best season to ride IMO. I'm hoping to get in a couple more longish rides before the season ends. Here in the north east one can ride typically into late November or early December. Depending on your tolerance to the cold that is. Once the snow flies & the roads get salted its wheels up till spring.

Yeee. January and February are actually the best months. Manitoba is one of the best spots to see them. Almost any province of Canada will be easy to spot provided the geomagnetic storm is strong enough.

    Come on up anytime!!

    OMGEEEEE, DeeBee...do it!

The northeast is soooo remarkable by moto.
If you have a chance ride up to Gaspe Peninsula, Quebec.

But the ride over the Great Lakes is beautiful if you head over to Manitoba from NY.

Looks like a sweet day of riding!

The foliage is already super pretty!
If I lived in such places, I would never be home.

I'm finding it hard to have a time to get out of state for the fall...as you have to get out of state to find places like that with good roads.

Next year I am aiming to take some vacation in September/October to make a run out west for pretty foliage and twisties.

It will be a while before I have time for more than a weekend long trip.
Even then I may be somewhat caravaning with the family cage ( like them taking the highway and me meeting up with them at various places where the backroad crosses the highway) and staying at the same motel and such. My oldest is old enough to ride on back some but not to get his license.

We almost went to the northeast then on up to Canada for vacation this year. Had a certain schisty shop proprietor I wanted to pay a visit :chaingun: :glee: Probably best I went to Myrtle Beach, SC to visit family instead. But I have yet to go to Canada (other than 10 minutes past the border at Niagara) or Out West through the deserts to California. Both which I hope to get to see in the next few years.

I have alot of places I want to ride here around Chattanooga, TN and Atlanta, GA that should keep me busy from now till summer vacation next year. I am hoping to get my bike in top shape by then.

So many places to go and ride. Not nearly enough time or money.

I have never been to Hecla but always wanted to go. Hecla was supposed to be part of our trip this past summer but simply ran out of time. Grand Beach was also supposed to be part of it. I might get up there next summer if I make to back to Winnipeg after Atascadero if that still goes on.

I hope that Terri and Reg understand that if they ever sell that place, they have to place a condition of sale on that crib so as to allow for withdrawal issues for many people here.

    Make it happen.

Hecla and Grindstone are beautiful camping locations. Grand Beach is as well.

I have a cousin who won a cabin about 30 years ago at Grand Beach. They still have it. Matter of fact, I think it was properly winterized and he or his brother live there. I know Uncle lived there until he passed a couple years ago. I've never seen the place. Matter of fact, haen't seen the cousins for a real long time. One since we were teens. Maybe it is time.

Is there a resort at Hecla. I haven't decided for sure but I am leaning to not carrying camping gear with me the next trip. When we go on our annual September Oregon/Washington ride, we stay at cheap highway-side motels With shared accomodations, it works out almost as cheap as what one pays for a campsite most places.

Yes. There's a beautiful resort/spa at Hecla as well as an incredible campground.
