Hello everyone. One stinking hot Australian summer day heading downwind, my 173,000 km 94 overheated over about 20mins. I pulled over before it boiled. Over 16 years it had remained consistent and never overheated before. Since then it runs hotter than ever before. New coolant, radiator cap and thermostat later and this new problem hasn't gone away. With the cap off and revving the engine, the fluid is visibly sucked down into the radiator so I am presuming that the water pump assembly is ok. In my garage, with the engine running, the temperature at the base of the front barrels gets to 85 degrees celsius and floats there with the fan cutting in and out. so it is possible that the temperature sensor is faulty or that my fan isn't cutting in when I'm riding... I will look into those two issues this week....
The fins on the front of my radiator are slightly squashed through years of bugs but not obviously flattened anywhere and this issue just appeared . No slow build up. I went to my honda dealer and they said that radiator hoses are discontinued by Honda and that aftermarket ones were never made. I want to replace my 2 hoses with new ones and hoped that someone has ideas? David Silver in the UK also says that the hoses are unavailable. Are there any for other models of any bike that can be adapted.? I am going to look into the hoses for the 1998 VFR this week. This is the first time I've found the parts for this bike discontinued....shame...I thought that it's popularity was sufficient, but I'm wrong. Thanks a lot for the ideas through the years guys!!! Sincerely yeah!

Upon reflection, I will focus on the temperature gauge sensor. At least I can test that in my garage... Interesting how reading what I have written gives me a different perspective. However, I still want to replace my radiator hoses. yeah!

If the hoses don't have too many sharp angles you may be able to use an equal length of the same size heater hose from any parts store. You can always use a black zip tie or two to pull the hose away from sensitive areas, or extreme heat.

Thanks DeeBee. I tested my engine by putting my temperature probe on the base of my front right barrel and found that the fan was cutting in and out even though the temp was rising from 71 through to 91 degrees C. It didn't stay on continuously and thereby the temp kept rising to 91 degrees C. It stabilised at that temp but perhaps the fan cut in thermostat is faulty. Any ideas? Thank you, yeah!

Replace the temp sensor for the fan , not sure of exact location or cut on temp for a Gen 4. You may be able to get the fan switch in different cut on temps.

In the meantime hook up a standard SPST (single pole single throw bypass switch so that you can turn the fans on manually when you anticipate slow or stop and go riding. When the switch is off the fans will operate like normal. So even after replacing the fan temp sensor you can leave the switch I place.

The above will help very little to not at all if your cooling system isn't in good working order to start with.

Just search the forum for detailed instructions , this is a pretty common issue.

sensor for the fan is on the right side of the rad. sensor for the temp guage is on the thermostat housing. I have dozens of used hoses for VFR750 94 - 97 so suspect these are not faulty, none of mine are

hello!!! I fitted an override switch to manually turn the fan on so I've successfully delayed finding the problem. The same hose kit will cost me 114 pounds sterling delivered to perth w.a. which is bearable but still expensive. I tested the temp at the fan rad switch and it turns on at 90 degrees C then off at 80 degrees C, with the probe touching the radiator at the base of the switch. As summer is approaching I will have to get serious about repairing tis problem...Thanks all!!!

There was a discount code here or on VFR discussion for samco.
If I can find it I will post it.
